The B&W Turnoverball underbed gooseneck trailer hitch offers the best of both worlds. It provides a sturdy, dependable connection with your gooseneck trailer for towing, and when not in use, the ball can be stowed upside down in the hitch for full bed access and a clean appearance.
The durable steel hitch ball included with the Turnoverball system secures in the hitch with a sturdy, 5/8" thick steel pin that is incorporated into the end of the operating handle. This ensures a strong, solid connection and absolute security when towing.
When not in use, the hitch ball can be easily removed and stored by pulling the handle out as far as it will go and then rotating it clockwise until it unlatches. The ball can then be flipped upside down and dropped back into the ball hole of the hitch. The latch can then be reengaged to secure the stowed ball in place.
The Turnoverball hitch ball is designed with a square base, unlike typical gooseneck balls with round bases. This design makes latching the ball in the hitch easier as the base won't rotate inside of the hitch, making pin alignment a breeze. The base of the ball also fits tightly within the ball hole during storage, preventing any dirt or grime buildup that could cause the ball to seize up in the hitch.
This hitch is custom designed for your vehicle. The included mounting brackets bolt to existing holes in your truck's frame. While some modification is required - you will need to cut a 4" diameter hole in your bed for the hitch ball and drill holes for the built-in safety chain loops - there is no need to weld onto or to drill into your frame.
Once you have the hitch brackets and body installed, set up the operating handle. This handle is designed to be accessed from the rear driver's-side wheel well. On the end of the handle is the heavy-duty steel pin that secures the hitch ball.

The B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch model 1116 is a gooseneck hitch system designed for 2017–2022 Ford F250 & F350 trucks, and Ford F450 trucks with factory-installed beds. It comes equipped with a 2–5/16" ball and is designed so the ball can be inverted and stored below the truck bed surface when not in use. The hitch mounts to the frame and bed of the truck and allows towing of trailers with a 2–5/16" coupler.
The model 1116 is designed for 2017–2022 Ford F250 & F350 trucks, and Ford F450 trucks with factory-installed beds. The product was designed to fit vehicles in their original, "as manufactured" condition. Compatibility with vehicles having replacement parts or other modifications is not guaranteed. Inspect your vehicle for modifications before installation. If your truck has a spray-in bed liner, you will need to account for the thickness of the applied liner when measuring the 4" hole location and add that thickness to the measurement. If your truck has a removable plastic bed liner, the hole may be cut through both the liner and the bed, but locating the center of the truck bed may be more difficult, and the mark may be harder to hit if the liner slides or moves. Failure to cut the hole in the correct location may adversely affect the installation. For other types of aftermarket modifications, contact B&W for compatibility confirmation.
The Turnoverball hitch comes equipped with a 2–5/16" ball. Trailers towed with this ball must have a 2–5/16" coupler. Towing with a larger coupler could cause loss of attachment between the trailer and the tow vehicle. Do not use a different ball size without consulting B&W.
Required tools include: impact wrench or ratchet with 3/4" and 15/16" sockets; 1/2", 3/4", and 15/16" box end wrenches; marking tool (pencil or permanent marker); 4" hole saw; drill with 1/2" bit; flashlight; ear protection; eye protection; torque wrench; pry bar; tape measure; lifting device; and pilot hole bit. A torque wrench is essential for final tightening to specification.
The kit includes: one front cross member, one rear cross member, four cross member brackets (front driver, front passenger, rear driver, rear passenger), eight 1/2" threaded bushings, one washer plate, outer and inner driver and passenger side plates, one center section, one 2–5/16" ball, one latch pin handle, and two hardware bolt bags containing various cap screws, nuts, washers, lock washers, U-bolts, conical springs, and carriage bolts. Some Ford truck models have inner side plates welded to the frame at the factory, while others do not. If your truck has inner side plates installed at the factory, you may discard the inner side plates provided with the kit and install only the outer side plates. If your truck does not have factory inner side plates, install both the inner and outer side plates as described in the installation instructions. Inspect your truck frame before installation to determine which applies.
Removing the spare tire is optional but recommended. Following the vehicle manufacturer's instructions, removing the spare tire will provide easier access to the area where the hitch will be installed. If you remove the spare tire, you must replace it after installation is complete.
Yes. Installation of the hitch requires the installer to be under the truck bed in the area of the rear axle. Lifting the vehicle makes this area more accessible to the installer and improves the installation process. Use only equipment designed for lifting and positioning vehicles for service. Failure to use proper lifting equipment may result in property damage, serious injury, or death.
The 4" hole location is determined by two measurements: (1) measure from the rear edge of the bed (at tailgate end) toward the cab—for 8' long beds and short beds (less than 8' long), use 45–1/2" for 2017–2020 models or 45–3/4" (dimple in bed) for 2021 and newer models; (2) locate the center of the bed by measuring the distance between the wheel wells and dividing by two. The center of the hole will be at the intersection of these two measurements. The hitch is designed to install only at this described location. Failure to place the hole precisely may result in added difficulty during installation or property damage.
Lowering the exhaust is optional. On some trucks, installation may be easier if the exhaust is lowered. If you choose to lower it, remove the four 10mm cap screws that attach the exhaust bracket to the frame just behind the rear passenger tire. Re-attach the exhaust bracket after installation is complete.
Yes. You must cut a 4" diameter hole in the truck bed at the specified location using a 4" hole saw or by marking out the 4" hole and using a saber saw equipped with a metal cutting blade. Remove any burrs created while cutting the hole. Additionally, you must drill pilot holes from under the bed through the safety holes in four places for the U-bolt installation, then enlarge those holes to 1/2". These holes must be perpendicular to the surface of the bed.
If a fender liner is present that restricts the movement of the handle, it is recommended that it be modified by cutting a relief slot or hole to allow the handle to move freely. If the liner was removed for installation, reinstall it after the hitch installation is complete. This modification is necessary to ensure the latch pin handle can operate without obstruction.
Final torque specifications are: all 5/8" hardware to 150 ft. lbs., and all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft. lbs. These torque values must be applied only after the hitch is properly positioned and aligned. Follow the specific tightening sequence outlined in the "Secure Hitch" section to ensure correct alignment before final torquing.
Tighten the 1/2" lock nut until the nut is flush with the end of the U-bolt. Do not over-tighten beyond this point.
Follow this five-step sequence: (1) Tighten hardware attaching cross members to the center section and each cross member bracket. (2) Make sure all other hardware connections are tight enough to hold mating surfaces flush but not tight enough to restrict movement for adjustment. Examine the socket from inside the truck bed through the 4" hole and adjust the hitch position until cross members are parallel to bed cross members and the socket is centered in the hole. (3) Tighten the 1/2" x 1–1/2" bolts with thread locker between the passenger front cross member bracket and passenger inside side plate, and between the driver rear cross member bracket and driver inside side plate. Examine the 4" hole again to ensure the socket is still centered. (4) Tighten the remaining two bolts to the inside side plates, then tighten the bolts with thread locker attaching the outside side plates and cross member brackets, then tighten the 5/8" bolts holding the side plates to the frame. (5) Once the hitch is tight, torque all 5/8" hardware to 150 ft. lbs. and all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft. lbs. Failure to follow this sequence may result in misalignment affecting hitch performance.
Position the handle by passing it over the frame from outside the driver side wheel well, between the bed stiffener and the rear driver cross member bracket. Push the handle toward the cab once the end with the holes is past the frame. Lock out the latch pin by retracting it and pushing the mechanism toward the cab. Place a 1/4" Allen wrench or thick piece of wire into the space on the mechanism to prevent it from latching unexpectedly. Position the handle above the latch mechanism and insert the 5/16" bolts through the holes in the latch mechanism. Secure these bolts with 5/16" locking flange nuts. Remove the object preventing the mechanism from latching and allow the pin to latch. The latch pin will not function properly if the handle is not installed correctly.
From under the bed, drill pilot holes into the bed in four places through the safety holes using a small drill bit. These holes must be perpendicular to the surface of the bed. Examine the holes from inside the truck bed—each set of holes should be 2" apart and each hole of a set should be the same distance from the nearest bed rib. Enlarge the holes to 1/2". From the top side of the truck bed, drop a U-bolt in each set of holes. Place a conical spring over each leg of the U-bolts and secure with a 1/2" lock nut. Tighten the lock nut until the nut is flush with the end of the U-bolt.
After installation, perform the following steps: (1) Replace the spare tire if it was removed. (2) Retract the latch pin by pulling the handle all the way out until it stops, then slide it toward the cab. The handle should stay in this position only when inverting the ball or installing a B&W towing accessory. (3) Modify the fender liner if necessary by cutting a relief slot or hole to allow the handle to move freely. (4) Apply a light coating of grease to the corners on the square shank of the 2–5/16" ball. (5) Move the handle toward the rear of the truck until the handle retracts and engages the 2–5/16" ball. (6) Verify clearance by retracting the latch pin with the handle attached and observing the travel path to ensure it is clear of brake lines, wires, plugs, and other objects. (7) Re-read all warnings on the front page of the instructions.
Key safety warnings include: (1) Do not exceed tow or tongue rating of coupler, hitch, truck, or trailer. (2) Do not modify the product—doing so could alter its integrity and lead to loss of attachment. (3) The hitch must be square in the truck; if the latch pin is not parallel with the axle, certain accessories will not be square with the truck. (4) Do not operate the tow vehicle while the latch is in the open position—the handle may contact the rear tire, causing damage or serious injury. (5) The latch pin has a pinch point hazard at the intersection of the latching mechanism and center section. (6) The handle operates in a very tight space within the wheel well—use caution to avoid hand and finger injuries. (7) Do not invert the ball while hauling heavy loads without inspecting clearance to the truck's differential, driveline, and other components. (8) Cab clearance on short bed trucks is very limited when towing certain trailers—ensure adequate clearance before towing. (9) When towing a wedge car trailer, keep the center of gravity as low as possible, load heavy cars over the axles, never tow with a single car on the front, and never exceed speeds reasonable for roadway conditions.

Do not invert the ball while hauling heavy loads—the ball may strike the truck's differential, driveline, or other components. Failure to remove the ball when hauling heavy loads may result in property damage, injury, or death. A cover to prevent debris from entering the socket while operating without the ball in place is available from B&W.
Most trucks have fuel lines, brake lines, electrical wires, or other vehicle systems located along the frame rails or in the general area where the B&W Turnoverball hitch installs. Carefully examine the locations of these systems before installation. Make certain that these are not damaged during positioning hitch components, drilling holes, or tightening fasteners. Damage to these systems may result in property damage, serious injury, or death.
After tightening the hardware according to the specified sequence, verify alignment by: (1) Examining the socket from inside the truck bed through the 4" hole. (2) Adjusting the position of the hitch until the hitch cross members are parallel to the bed cross members and the socket is centered within the hole. (3) Ensuring the latch pin is parallel with the axle—if the latch pin is not parallel with the axle, certain accessories to the Turnoverball hitch will not be square with the truck. The hitch must be square in the truck for proper performance.

The bushings need to fit tightly into the holes to prevent them from falling out during installation. If the bushings are loose, place a small piece of plastic bag or paper in the hole during installation to fill the gap and ensure a tight fit. Tap the bushing in until the rim is flat against the top of the bracket. If the bushings continue to fall out, the holes may be oversized—contact B&W for replacement brackets.
