Equip your vehicle with this robust hitch to safely tow your gooseneck trailer. The removable ball can be stored upside down in the hitch when not in use, providing complete bed access. The square ball base is designed to stay put in the hitch.
The B&W Turnoverball under-bed gooseneck trailer hitch offers the best of both worlds. It provides a sturdy, reliable connection with your gooseneck trailer for towing, and when not in use, the ball can be stowed upside down in the hitch for full bed access and a clean look.
The durable steel hitch ball included with the Turnoverball system is secured in the hitch with a sturdy, 5/8" thick steel pin integrated into the end of the operating handle. To lock the ball in place, drop it into the hitch hole in your truck bed. Then rotate the handle in your driver's-side wheel well counterclockwise until the latch engages. When the latch is engaged, the spring-loaded pin on the end of the handle will be inserted all the way through the base of the hitch ball, forming a strong, solid connection for secure towing.
When you're done towing, remove the hitch ball by pulling the handle out as far as it will go and then rotating it clockwise until it unlatches. Flip the ball upside down and drop it back into the ball hole of the hitch. Then reengage the latch to secure the stowed ball in place.
The Turnoverball hitch ball is designed with a square base, unlike typical gooseneck balls with round bases. This design makes latching the ball in the hitch easier as the base won't rotate inside of the hitch, making pin alignment a breeze. The base of the ball also fits tightly within the ball hole during storage, preventing any dirt or grime buildup that could cause the ball to seize up in the hitch.
This hitch is custom designed for your vehicle. The included mounting brackets bolt to existing holes in your truck's frame. While some modification is required - you will need to cut a 4" diameter hole in your bed for the hitch ball and drill holes for the built-in safety chain loops - there is no need to weld onto or to drill into your frame.
Once you have the hitch brackets and body installed, set up the operating handle. This handle is designed to be accessed from the rear driver's-side wheel well. On the end of the handle is the heavy-duty steel pin that secures the hitch ball.

The Turnoverball hitch comes equipped with a 2–5/16" ball. Trailers towed with this ball must have a 2–5/16" coupler. Using a larger coupler could cause loss of attachment between the trailer and tow vehicle.
Removing the spare tire is optional but recommended. Following the vehicle manufacturer's instructions, removing the spare tire will provide easier access to the area where the hitch will be installed.
Required tools include: 10mm, 1/2", 3/4", and 15/16" box end wrenches; marking tool (pencil or permanent marker); 4" hole saw; flashlight; drill with 1/2" bit; eye protection; ear protection; torque wrench; pry bar; tape measure; lifting device; and pilot hole drill bit. An impact wrench or ratchet with 10mm, 1/2", 3/4", and 15/16" sockets is also recommended.
A lifting device is optional but recommended. It is used to safely hold the hitch in position during part of the installation. A simple mechanical lifting device is available for purchase from B&W. If you use one, secure it to the center section when positioning it against the truck bed.
Yes. The Turnoverball hitch is designed so the ball can be inverted and stored below the truck bed surface. You must measure the trailers to be towed with this hitch to ensure the ball location will provide ample turning clearance between the nose of the trailers and the cab of the truck. Cab clearance on short bed trucks is very limited when towing certain trailers. Failure to ensure adequate clearance may result in significant property damage or serious injury.
You must remove the inner fender guards from both sides by removing two screws and sliding the guard toward the tire. You must remove the heat shield by removing 10mm bolts connecting it to the bed cross members. You must relocate the vent hose attached to the rear side of the bed cross member behind the fuel tank using a small screwdriver. If the fuel valve canister is mounted in front of the tube frame cross member, it must be lowered by removing three 10mm bolts, sliding it toward the center, pulling the end downward, and dropping it about 4–5 inches. On the passenger side, you must detach two connectors securing the wiring harness to the frame. All of these components will be reinstalled or relocated after the hitch is installed.
Lifting the vehicle is optional but recommended. Installation requires the installer to work under the truck bed in the area of the rear axle. Lifting the vehicle makes this area more accessible and improves the installation process. Use only equipment designed for lifting and positioning vehicles for service. Failure to do so may result in property damage, serious injury, or death.
Yes. You must drill a 4-inch diameter hole in the truck bed at a specific location. The hole can be cut using a 4" hole saw or by marking out the 4" hole and using a saber saw equipped with a metal cutting blade. You must also drill four 1/2" holes through the truck bed from underneath to install the latch pin release handle. Remove any burrs created during drilling.
Using a tape measure hooked over the rear edge of the bed at the tailgate end, measure 46–1/2" from the rear edge. Next, locate the center of the bed by measuring the distance between the wheel wells and dividing by two. The center of the 4" hole will be at the intersection of the center of the bed and the 46–1/2" measurement. This measurement applies to both 8-foot long beds and short beds (less than 8 feet long). If your truck has a spray-in bed liner, add the thickness of the liner to your measurement. If the bed has a plastic bed liner, the hole may be cut through both the liner and bed, but the mark may be harder to hit if the liner moves.
Yes. You must cut two small V-shaped notches in the bed flange just above the frame in the passenger side wheel well to allow installation of the hitch's rear cross member. Some trucks may not need as much cut if the flange is shorter or has existing reliefs. Additionally, you may need to modify inner fender guards and liners to allow access to the latch pin handle.
If your truck has a spray-in bed liner, you must account for the thickness of the applied liner when measuring the 4" hole location and add that thickness to the 46–1/2" measurement. If the bed is equipped with a plastic bed liner, the hole may be cut through both the liner and the bed. However, the center of the truck bed may be more difficult to locate, and the mark may be harder to hit if the liner slides or moves. Failure to cut the hole in the correct location may adversely affect the installation and may result in property damage.
Most trucks have fuel lines, brake lines, electrical wires, or other vehicle systems located along the frame rails or in the general area where the B&W Turnoverball hitch installs. You must carefully examine the locations of these systems before installation and ensure they are not damaged during positioning hitch components, drilling holes, or tightening fasteners. Damage to these systems may result in property damage, serious injury, or death.
The kit includes two main boxes: the Mounting Kit Box (GNRK1208) and the Center Box (GNRC1219). The Mounting Kit contains driver and passenger side plates, front and rear cross members, cross member braces, pin brackets, fish wire, hardware (cap screws, carriage bolts, washers, nuts), and locking straps. The Center Box contains the center section with the 2–5/16" ball, latch pin handle, and safety chain U-bolt hardware (U-bolts, conical springs, and lock nuts). Verify all parts are present using the parts list on the front page before beginning installation.
The Mounting Kit includes: two 1/2" × 1–1/2" cap screws, six 1/2" × 1–1/2" carriage bolts, ten 1/2" × 2" carriage bolts, sixteen 1/2" flat washers, sixteen 1/2" lock washers, two 1/2" finish nuts, and five 5/8" flange nuts. The Safety Chain Kit includes: two 1/2" U-bolts, four conical springs, four 1/2" lock nuts, one 5/16" × 3/4" cap screw, one 5/16" × 3/4" carriage bolt, and one 5/16" flange nut. Verify all hardware is present before installation.
Torque all 1/2" hardware connections to 110 ft. lbs. and all 5/8" hardware connections to 150 ft. lbs. Follow the specific tightening sequence: first tighten the bolts attaching the cross member brackets to the rear cross member; second, tighten the carriage bolts attaching the front cross members to the side plates; third, tighten the bolts attaching the cross member brackets to the inside of the frame. Failure to follow this sequence may result in hitch components being misaligned, which could affect hitch performance or result in property damage or serious injury.
Follow this sequence: (1) Tighten the bolts attaching the cross member brackets to the rear cross member. (2) Tighten the carriage bolts attaching the front cross members to the side plates. (3) Tighten the bolts attaching the cross member brackets to the inside of the frame. Then torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft. lbs. and all 5/8" hardware to 150 ft. lbs. Failure to follow this sequence may result in hitch components being misaligned, which could affect hitch performance or result in property damage or serious injury.
Locate the rear cross member and the area where the V-shaped notches were cut in the bed flange. Orient the rear cross member so the leg with the rectangular notches is toward the front of the truck. Slide the rear cross member through the V-shaped notches and between the bed and the frame until it spans the driver and passenger frame rails. Rotate the rear cross member so the leg with the rectangular notches is vertical. The leg with the holes should be flat against the top of the frame toward the rear of the truck.
Raise the center section up between the frame on the passenger side of the truck and the exhaust pipe with the latch pin toward the driver side. Once it is over the exhaust, turn it flat and slide it over the gas tank. With the center section in the center of the truck, slide it toward the rear, placing the flat part with four slotted holes between the bed cross member and the round frame cross member. Slide it back until the raised portion lines up with the 4" hole in the truck bed. Insert the raised portion into the truck bed hole. If using an overhead lifting device, secure it to the center section and apply enough force to hold it against the truck bed. Align the slots in the rear flange with the holes in the rear cross member and install 1/2" × 1–1/2" cap screws with flat washers, lock washers, and nuts.
Locate the front cross member and orient it so the leg with the holes is vertical. Slide the end with the short notch between the frame and truck bed from the driver side. The notch in the top leg allows clearance around the shock bracket on the passenger side. Locate the front cross member brace and install it between the frame and truck bed from the driver side with the cut-out area facing down. Once both span the frame rails, slide them back toward the center section. While pushing up on the center section so the raised portion fits through the 4" hole in the truck bed, align the holes and install 1/2" × 2" carriage bolts through the cross member, brace, and center section. Place a flat washer, lock washer, and nut on each bolt.
On the passenger side, detach the two connectors securing the wiring harness to the frame; the wiring will be left loose so the side plate can be installed underneath. Place the driver side plate against the frame with the bent ear with the square hole facing inward on the cab side of the cross members. The bottom flange should face in and match the slope of the underside of the frame. Place one bolt guide assembly (bolt first) through the larger oval hole just in front of the side plate, twist it around and back out through the smaller hole in the frame and side plate. Use the tab on the end of the bolt guide assembly to hold it in place while a 5/8" flange nut is installed. Repeat for the passenger side. After installation, reattach the wiring harness connectors to the frame or tie the harness to the frame or side plate.
With a tape measure, check the distance between the Turnoverball hitch and the nearest bed cross member. The distance between the hitch and the cross member should be consistent on the driver side and the passenger side of the hitch. The hitch must be square in the truck. If the center section is not parallel with the axle, certain accessories to the Turnoverball hitch will not be square with the truck.
From under the bed, use a drill and 1/2" drill bit to drill through the bed using the four holes that match up with a low rib in the truck as a guide. Remove any burrs created during drilling. Insert the latch pin release handle through the slot in the end of the center section on the driver side of the truck. Align the handle eyelet with the hole in the latch pin tab so the handle is in line with the latch. Attach the handle to the latch pin with the bolt head on the handle side and the lock nut on the tab side. When installed correctly, the latch pin may be disengaged from the ball by pulling on the handle from the driver side wheel well and rotating the handle clockwise.
The hitch is designed so U-bolts will be in a low rib of the truck bed to reduce obstruction. Carefully examine the safety chain holes in the center section to determine which holes are under a low rib. From the top side of the truck bed, drop a U-bolt in each set of holes. Place a conical spring over each leg of the U-bolts and secure with a 1/2" lock nut. Tighten the lock nut until the nut is flush with the end of the U-bolt.
After installation, replace the fuel valve canister (if removed) in its original position. Route the vent hose around obstacles so the end is up between the bed cross member and the hitch as far as possible without kinking the hose, and secure it in this location. Replace the inner fender guards in the reverse order of removal, making modifications as needed to allow access to the latch pin handle. Replace the spare tire if it was removed. Lubricate the 2–5/16" ball by applying a light coating of grease to the corners on the square shank. Engage the pin by rotating the handle counterclockwise until the handle retracts and engages the 2–5/16" ball. Re-read all warnings on the front page of the instructions.
Do not exceed the tow or tongue rating of the coupler, hitch, truck, or trailer. See vehicle and trailer manufacturer information for ratings. Exceeding these ratings may cause damage to towing components or loss of attachment between the trailer and truck. When towing a wedge car trailer, keep the center of gravity as low as possible by loading heavy cars over the axles. Never tow with a single car on the front of the trailer. Never exceed speeds that are reasonable for the roadway conditions. Failure to account for proper trailer center of gravity and speeds may cause damage to the truck, trailer, towing components, and loss of attachment between the truck and trailer.
To disengage the pin, pull the handle out all the way until it stops, then rotate it clockwise. The handle should stay in this position. The latch should only be put in this open position when inverting the 2–5/16" ball or installing a B&W towing accessory. To engage the pin, rotate the handle counterclockwise until the handle retracts and engages the 2–5/16" ball. The handle operates in a very tight space within the wheel well. Use caution when operating the handle so your hands and fingers do not get injured on sharp edges of the truck or get pinched against the frame due to the force of the spring-loaded latch pin.
Operating the tow vehicle while the latch is in the open position may allow the handle to come into contact with the rear tire. This may damage the tire or the handle and could lead to serious injury or death. Keep the latch in the closed position during normal towing. Only open the latch when inverting the ball or installing a B&W towing accessory.
Inverting the ball while hauling heavy loads may cause the ball to strike the truck's differential, driveline, or other components. Inspect the relationship between the ball and truck components to ensure proper clearance. Failure to remove the ball when hauling heavy loads may result in property damage, injury, or death. A cover to prevent debris from entering the socket while operating without the ball in place is available from B&W.
A visual inspection of the hitch should be performed before each time you tow. Regularly check that all pinned connections are secure and that all bolted connections are at the correct torque specification (1/2" hardware to 110 ft. lbs., 5/8" hardware to 150 ft. lbs.). Check for cracks or damage to the hitch. Do not tow with the hitch if cracks or damage outside of normal wear is found. Towing with a hitch that has cracks or damage could result in damage to the tow vehicle, trailer, towing components, or loss of attachment between the tow vehicle and trailer. Lubricate the 2–5/16" ball by applying a light coating of grease to the corners on the square shank.
When installed properly, the latch pin will pass through the 2–5/16" ball and fully engage through both walls of the hitch receiver. Rotate the handle counterclockwise until the handle retracts and engages the 2–5/16" ball. Failure of the pin to engage the ball and hitch properly could result in a loss of attachment between the trailer and the tow vehicle.

When installed correctly, you should be able to disengage the pin by pulling on the handle from the driver side wheel well and rotating it clockwise.
Use a tape measure to check the distance between the Turnoverball hitch and the nearest bed cross member. The distance should be consistent on the driver side and the passenger side. If the center section is not parallel with the axle, certain accessories to the Turnoverball hitch will not be square with the truck. Loosen the fasteners and reposition the hitch until the distances are equal on both sides, then retighten following the specified torque sequence.
The fish wire must go under the round frame cross member that goes through the inside wall of the frame. If the fish wire does not stay under the round cross member, the hardware could get stuck inside the frame and not be able to be retrieved. When threading the fish wire through the 3/4" hole, ensure it passes under the round frame cross member before exiting through the larger hole toward the front of the truck.
The hitch is designed to install only at the described location. Failure to place the 4" hole precisely may result in added difficulty during installation or property damage. The hole must be at 46–1/2" from the rear edge of the bed (at the tailgate end) and centered between the wheel wells. If your hole is not in the correct location, you may need to consult with B&W at 800.248.6564 or hitches@turnoverball.com for guidance on correcting the installation.
No. The side plate for the passenger side may not lay perfectly flat against the frame because of the shock bracket that is welded on. This will cause no problems with the fit or function of the hitch.
