The B&W Turnoverball underbed gooseneck trailer hitch offers the best of both worlds. It provides a sturdy, dependable connection with your gooseneck trailer for towing, and when you're done, you can stow the ball upside down in the hitch for full bed access and a clean appearance.
The durable steel hitch ball included with the Turnoverball system secures in the hitch with a sturdy, 5/8" thick steel pin that is incorporated into the end of the operating handle. To lock the ball in place, drop it into the hitch hole in the bed of your truck. Then rotate the handle in your driver's-side wheel well counterclockwise until the latch engages. When the latch is engaged, the spring-loaded pin on the end of the handle will be inserted all the way through the base of the hitch ball, forming a strong, solid connection and ensuring absolute security when you're towing.
When you're done towing, remove the hitch ball by simply pulling the handle out as far as it will go and then rotating it clockwise until it unlatches. Remove the ball, flip it upside down, and drop it back into the ball hole of the hitch. Then reengage the latch to secure the stowed ball in place.
Unlike typical gooseneck balls - which have round bases - the Turnoverball hitch ball is designed with a square base. This makes latching the ball in the hitch easier because the base won't rotate inside of the hitch like a round base might, so lining the pin up is a snap. The base of the ball also fits tightly within the ball hole during storage. Because only the corners of the base contact the sides of the socket, any dirt or grime that gets into the hitch will fall through the socket, thus helping to prevent any buildup that could cause the ball to seize up in the hitch.
This hitch is custom designed for your vehicle. The included mounting brackets bolt to existing holes in your truck's frame. While some modification is required - you will need to cut a 3-1/2" diameter hole in your bed for the hitch ball and drill holes for the built-in safety chain loops - there is no need to weld onto or to drill into your frame.
Once you have the hitch brackets and body installed, set up the operating handle. This handle is designed to be accessed from the rear driver's-side wheel well. On the end of the handle is the heavy-duty steel pin that secures the hitch ball.

Some vehicles have plastic liners inside the rear wheel wells. If the liner in the driver-side wheel well prevents access to the opening between the bed and frame just over the axle, it may need to be removed or cut to install the handle. If a fender liner restricts the movement of the handle after installation, it is recommended that it be modified by cutting a relief slot or hole to allow the handle to move freely.
The exhaust hanger must be disconnected to provide improved mounting access to the center section. The exhaust hanger is located in the rear passenger portion of the truck. A pry bar is recommended to aid in disconnecting the exhaust hanger. After the hitch installation is complete, the exhaust must be re-attached to the bracket. B&W recommends using soap and water to lubricate the pin and rubber hanger to aid in re-attachment.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill a 3-1/2" diameter hole in the truck bed floor and four 1/2" holes for the safety chain U-bolts. First, use the hole template to mark the center location on the bed floor, then use a center punch to create an indentation. Drill a 1/4" pilot hole through the bed, then use a 3-1/2" hole saw from the top side of the bed to create the main hole. For the U-bolt holes, use the Safety Chain U-bolt Guide to mark the four hole locations, then drill each with a 1/2" drill bit from the top of the bed. Drill perpendicular to the bed surface. A saber saw with a metal cutting blade may be used as an alternative to the hole saw for the 3-1/2" hole.
You must drill a 3-1/2" diameter hole in the truck bed floor. This hole accommodates the raised portion of the center section. The 3-1/2" hole will leave a gap around the hitch structure, which is filled by the plastic spacer block. Remove any burrs created while cutting the hole.

If the mark is in the same location as when originally made, the latch pin has gone completely through the ball socket. Failure of the pin to engage the ball and hitch properly could result in loss of attachment between the trailer and tow vehicle.
To retract the pin: Pull the handle out all the way until it stops, then slide it toward the cab. The handle should stay in this position. The latch should only be put in this open position when inverting the 2-5/16" ball or installing a B&W towing accessory. Do not operate the tow vehicle while the latch is in the open position, as the handle may come into contact with the rear tire, which may damage the tire or handle and could lead to serious injury or death.
After installation, complete these steps: (1) Re-attach the exhaust bracket by pulling the exhaust back up and re-attaching it. Use soap and water to lubricate the pin and rubber hanger to aid in re-attachment. (2) If a fender liner was removed, reinstall it. If a fender liner restricts handle movement, modify it by cutting a relief slot or hole. (3) Replace the spare tire and heat shield if they were removed. (4) Apply a light coating of grease to the corners on the square shank of the 2-5/16" ball. Re-apply lubricant as often as needed during use.
