Clean the top of the bulkhead with soap and water to remove dirt and debris. Then clean the same area with isopropyl alcohol to remove wax or grease and evaporate any remaining water. Allow the surface to dry completely before applying the seal.
The seal should be placed flush with the front edge of the bulkhead and should be snug between the truck bed rails. Peel the backing paper and apply pressure to the entire seal to ensure good adhesion.
Remove three of the four factory plastic clips. Pry out the center first, then pry out the entire clip. These clips will not be used again unless you permanently remove the bed cover assembly.
Slide three clamps into the tail end of the driver side rail, aligning each clamp with the hole where you removed the plastic clips. Insert a Torx head screw through a washer into the clamp, then through the plastic rail/sheet metal into a nut. Ensure the nut is behind the sheet metal and the bottom of the rail is between the clamps and the plastic rail cap. Hand tighten to hold in place, then torque to 8 ft.lbf / 11 N.m starting with the front clamp, applying downward pressure on the rail while tightening. Repeat with middle and rear clamps, ensuring the rail is square and flat with the bed rail. Repeat on the passenger side.
If the rails are leaning down, have one person stand on the outside of the bed and slightly roll the rails upward while another person slowly snugs the clamps up. Do not tighten clamps too quickly or overtighten, as this will cause the rails to lean down.
Attach the drain tubes to the front of the side rails (driver and passenger sides) to allow water to be diverted out of the truck bed via the rail. The opposite end can be placed behind a bedliner, through existing bed plugs, or routed through a 5/8" hole drilled in the bulkhead.
Before placing the cover onto the vehicle, slide two cover retainer clamps into the track on the underside of the cover near the cab. Confirm the clamps fit properly into the cover rail for optimum fit. Repeat on the opposite side of the cover.
Peel off the adhesive liner of the gasket and adhere it to the underside of each buckle end. Position the buckle ends with the open side facing the bed cover panel. Use a Phillips screwdriver to install the two buckles into the pre-drilled holes on the front header panel with the provided screws and nutsert inserted from the backside. Do not use a screw gun; tighten securely by hand only. Position buckles no closer than 1" from the edge of the cover panel.
With the cover in the folded position, clean the area where the three D-shaped cab bumpers will go with soap and water to remove dirt and debris. Then clean with isopropyl alcohol to remove wax or grease and evaporate any remaining water. Allow the surface to dry. Install the cab bumpers along the top edge of the cover where it meets the truck cab. Apply pressure to all bumpers to ensure good adhesion.
Unfold the cover towards the tailgate and confirm each panel is centered side to side and front to back on the truck bed. The rear edge of the cover and tailgate seal should rest on top of the tailgate. For proper sealing, the tail panel will overlap by 0.5". If adjustments are needed, loosen the cover retainer clamps and shift the cover until positioned correctly.
To drive with the cover in the folded up position, use the straps and buckles provided. Attach the buckle at the bulkhead, then pull the strap to take up the slack and secure the cover. Before flipping the cover up, stow the straps using the clips on the underside of the folded cover.
To drive with the cover closed, unhook the buckles and straps from the bulkhead. Stow the straps using the clips on the underside of the folded cover. Fold all panels towards the tailgate, making sure that all latches are engaged.
Lower the tailgate and pull the cable on either side. While pulling on the cable, lift the panel up and towards the cab.
Fold the cover open and lift it until it's vertical or past 90 degrees towards the truck cab. Release the prop rod attached to the rail, fold it over, and position it firmly against the vertical plate on the underside of the cover. Slide the prop rod locks downwards and tighten the knobs to lock it into position. Do this on both sides. The cover should be firmly in position with little to no movement once the prop rods are locked.
If your truck has a powered opening or closing tailgate, ensure the tailgate functions properly with the cover closed. If needed, adjust the cover towards the truck cab to allow proper tailgate operation.
Release each latch and check if the latches are hitting or not engaging the side rails. If any latches need modifications, refer to the Slam Latch Adjustment section to make adjustments.
Retighten the cover retainer clamps once the desired fitment is reached after initial installation. Additionally, check all clamps and retention mechanisms for tightness after a week of driving following installation and periodically thereafter.
Use a screwdriver to partially pry open the tab on the latch housing while sliding the housing away from the latch assembly. (Note: on the passenger side, the tab is on the opposite side of the housing.) With the latch cover removed, loosen the screws and move the latch bracket to adjust. Retighten the screws and slide the latch housing back on.
Improper engagement of the clamps can cause the rails to appear tilted inward. Loosen the nut and adjust the clamp(s) until you have full engagement of both rail legs (sections 1 and 2). When properly engaged, an audible click will be heard. Overtightening the bolt can also contribute to tilted rails, so do not over torque.

Check the following: (1) Ensure the retaining clamps are tight and properly engaged to the side rails. (2) Verify the bulkhead seal is in place and the cover is resting on it. (3) Make sure all latches are engaged to the side rails and adjust if needed. (4) Check that the side rails are installed flush with the top of the bed rail.
The cable could be pinched in or under the cable guide extrusion. Loosen the three screws on the center cable cover (bar) located in the middle of the panel. Slightly lift up on the cable guide extrusion. Pull on both sides of the cable to free it.
The seal may be wavy when removed from the box. Allow ample sunlight for the seal to lay flat and relax.
Periodically check that your cover is securely attached to your truck bed and working as intended. Inspect all hardware such as clamps and cover retainer clamps to ensure they are properly installed and working as intended. Covers used at high frequency or subject to rough roadways and/or heavy vibration may require adjustment. Regularly inspect and service each panel latch by cleaning away excess dirt or grime and ensuring all latches move freely and properly engage the side rail.
Do not place objects on or against the cover or framework. Do not tie cargo to the truck bed cover or framework. Do not operate the vehicle with objects on top of the cover. Never allow children or pets to occupy the truck bed with the cover in the fully closed position. The cover is not airtight; special care is required to keep cargo clean and dry. Truck bed covers will not prevent theft of contents inside the truck bed.
Before opening the cover, it must be free of all foreign materials including snow and ice.
The BAKflip carries a limited warranty against defects in materials or workmanship. The warranty period depends on the cover material: MX4 and F1 covers are warranted for five (5) years from the original date of purchase; G2 and FIBERMAX covers are warranted for three (3) years from the original date of purchase. The warranty is not transferable and applies only to the initial owner. Warranty registration and proof of purchase are required.
The warranty is void if the product has been damaged in an accident, or due to neglect, unforeseeable use, improper installation, improper servicing, or other cause not arising out of defects in material or workmanship. Failure to follow care and use instructions will also void the warranty. Specific conditions that void warranty include: not cleaning with mild automotive soap and water only; not securing the cover at all points when the vehicle is in motion; not checking clamps and retention mechanisms for tightness after a week of driving and periodically thereafter; opening the cover when it has snow or ice on it; and towing the vehicle from the rear with the cover installed.
