Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.

The Blue Ox 2-Point WD Hitch is a weight distributing hitch that combines weight distribution with sway control using loaded spring bars and friction L brackets. As the trailer tries to sway, the steel-on-steel friction of the L brackets controls trailer sway. Simultaneously, the spring bars distribute weight to the towing vehicle's front tires, increasing steering control and braking performance for a safer towing experience. The hitch comes with a pre-installed hitch ball: 2-5/16" x 12K rated for BXW0875 and BXW1275 models, or 2" x 7.5K rated for BXW0675.
The three models have different tongue weight capacities: BXW0675 has a 600 lbs maximum tongue weight capacity, BXW0875 has 800 lbs, and BXW1275 has 1,200 lbs. Choose the model that matches your trailer's tongue weight requirements.
The Blue Ox 2-Point WD Hitch (BXW0675, BXW0875, BXW1275) is designed for towing vehicles with a 6-hole receiver hitch mount and a 2" shank receiver tube. The hitch uses a standard receiver, round bars, and L brackets. Verify that your vehicle has a compatible 6-hole receiver before purchasing. The manual does not specify compatibility with individual vehicle makes or models beyond this receiver type.
The BXW0675 includes a 2" x 7.5K rated chrome plated hitch ball. The BXW0875 and BXW1275 both include a 2-5/16" x 12K rated chrome plated hitch ball. Both balls come pre-installed with the hitch.
Gross trailer weight is the total weight of the trailer (dry) plus all liquids (water, propane, sewage) plus cargo. Measure gross trailer weight with a fully loaded trailer on a level surface, preferably on a public truck scale.

The towing vehicle and trailer must be parked in a straight line on firm, level ground during installation. This ensures accurate measurements for ball height, coupler height, and bracket positioning.
Insert the hitch receiver shank (6-hole shank, part 61-8428) into the towing vehicle receiver and secure it with the 5/8" x 3" effective pin with clip (part 200-1483). This pin and clip hold the shank in place during towing.
First, level the trailer using the trailer tongue jack and measure the coupler height from the ground to the inside of the coupler. The ball height should be the same height or 1" higher than the trailer coupler height. For optimal towing performance, it is recommended to set the ball height 2" higher than the top of the trailer coupler. Adjust by adding or removing washers on the tilt head pin as needed. Start with five (5) washers and adjust from there.
The hitch ball should be vertical or slightly tilted rearward for proper setup. Adjust the ball angle by adding or removing washers on the tilt head pin. Start with five (5) washers and adjust as needed. Add more washers when close to the maximum tongue weight and fewer washers when close to minimum tongue weight.
After adjusting the hitch head tilt, insert one 3/4"-10 bolt with a 3/4" lock washer and 3/4"-10 hex nut into the top hole. Then remove the bottom 3/4" bolt and add a 3/4" lock washer and 3/4"-10 hex nut. Do not fully tighten at this time. These bolts will be torqued to 250 ft/lbs in a later step.
Insert the 5/8" bolt into the bottom front hole on the receiver and tighten against the shank. The hitch head should move upward until the tilt head pin touches the shank. Turn the bolt an additional 1/4 to 1/2 turn to fully tighten. This secures the hitch head position.
The 3/4"-10 bolts on the hitch head must be torqued to 250 ft/lbs. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightening.
Measure 20"-25" back from the center of the ball coupler and mark this point on the trailer tongue frame on both sides. Center the L bracket mounting holes on the backing plate over the marked area so that the offset is towards the front of the trailer on each side. Both backing plates should be an equal distance from the ball coupler. For trailers with tongue weight less than 800 lbs, brackets may be installed closer to the center of the ball coupler, with a minimum of 20" from center. If the bracket is not mounted at 25", this may affect weight distribution setup, spring bar setup, and ride stiffness.
Apply molybdenum grease to the round end of both spring bars. Push the round end of the bar up into the head socket until a "click" sound is heard. This sound indicates that the bar is locked in place. Repeat for both bars. The spring bars can be released by lifting up slightly on the bar and pulling gently outward on the retaining pin on the hitch head, or by rotating the bar away from the trailer and perpendicular to the tow vehicle, then pushing the bar down.
The end of the spring bar should be a minimum of 4" from the center of the L bracket backing plate to the open end of the bar. This clearance must be verified after confirming that the L brackets are 20"-25" from the center of the coupler.
Insert two 1/2" whiz flange bolts into the L bracket, leaving the top hole open. Apply Blue Loctite to the threads and torque the bolts to 78 ft/lbs.
The 1/2" whiz flange bolts that attach the L brackets to the backing plate must be torqued to 78 ft/lbs. Apply Blue Loctite to the threads before tightening.
1. Park the towing vehicle and trailer in a straight line on firm, level ground. 2. Install the hitch head/receiver mount assembly into the towing vehicle receiver tube and secure with the 5/8" x 3" pin and clip. 3. Couple the trailer to the hitch head. 4. Install both spring bars into the hitch head per installation instructions. 5. Confirm that both L brackets are secure against the trailer frame. 6. Support the trailer tongue weight with the trailer jack to allow for easier hook-up. Place the spring bar into the dip on the lift tool, then place the hook end into the square hole in the L bracket. Raise the lift tool upward until the spring bar securely snaps into place. Place the bar locking pin into the square hole on the L bracket and secure with a hair pin. Repeat on both sides.
1. Park the towing vehicle and trailer in a straight line on firm, level ground. 2. Support the trailer tongue weight with the trailer jack to ease tension on the spring bar. Remove the locking pin from the L bracket. Place the lift tool between the spring bar and frame and push inward on the top of the tool, removing the spring bar from the L bracket. Repeat on both sides. 3. Disconnect the spring bars from the hitch head by lifting up slightly on the bar and pulling gently outward on the retaining pin on the hitch head, or by rotating the bar away from the trailer and perpendicular to the tow vehicle, then pushing the bar down. 4. Unhook the trailer coupler from the hitch head. 5. Remove the hitch pin and clip from the hitch receiver. 6. Remove the hitch head/receiver mount assembly from the receiver tube.
Caution must be used when unhooking due to the potential of injury caused by tension on the spring bars. Hold the lift tool firmly as you release the spring bar from the L bracket. Apply pressure to the top of the lift tool in a slow and steady manner. Support the trailer tongue weight with the trailer jack to ease the tension on the spring bar and allow for easier unhooking.
The towing vehicle's loaded ball height should never be greater than its uncoupled height. Exceeding this can cause front wheel overload and loss of rear wheel traction, leading to unstable handling, reduced braking ability, and a tendency to jackknife when turning and braking at the same time.
No. Do not attempt to tow any type of trailer behind another trailer. Towing multiple trailers may cause severe instability, loss of control, and/or structural failures.
If the 2-Point hitch is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the hitch if it is damaged or missing parts.
Always use safety chains while towing. Cross chains under the coupler for proper installation and to prevent the tongue from dropping to the ground. Only allow enough slack in chains for tight turns; the chains should not drag on the ground. To alleviate slack, twist chains equally from the hook end. Safety chains should be rated at equal to or greater than twice the maximum gross trailer weight rating (GTWR).
Do not exceed the vehicle manufacturer's specification for trailer gross vehicle weight or tongue weight, as this may cause a serious accident and/or injury while towing. Be aware that some receiver hitch manufacturers have different weight capacity ratings depending on whether a weight distribution hitch is used or not. Always verify your vehicle's towing capacity and the hitch model's tongue weight capacity before towing.
Before each use: coat the round end of the spring bars with molybdenum grease; ensure the coupler and ball are clean and lightly coat the hitch ball with grease; check that all hardware is properly tightened and the L brackets are properly secured; ensure the hitch receiver is properly installed with the hitch pin and clip in place; check safety chains and electrical hook-ups. Annually: touch up the hitch with flat black textured spray paint to prevent corrosion.
