Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.

Yes. Using an 18MM socket and wrench, remove the two bolts from the tow hook on each side of the vehicle. Remove the tow hooks and set them aside—they will not be reinstalled.
Skid plate removal is required for some model years. For 2021 Chevy Colorado, using a 15MM socket, remove the five bolts from the skid plate (two towards the front and three towards the back), then set it aside to be reinstalled later. For other model years, follow the specific fascia removal instructions for your vehicle.

1. Slide the baseplate into place and insert two 1/2" x 3-1/2" bolts into the side holes (use a flat washer with the front bolt). Do not install nuts at this time. 2. Start the two existing 10MM bolts into the front holes; may need to lift the baseplate for holes to line up. Tighten bolts but do not use Loctite Red at this time. 3. Remove the two side bolts, add Loctite Red, and reinstall. Tighten fully at this time. 4. Remove the two front bolts, reinstall the bumper, then reinstall the existing bolts using Loctite Red. Tighten fully at this time.
Do not apply Loctite Red when first tightening the front 10MM bolts. Apply Loctite Red when reinstalling the two side bolts (step 5) and when reinstalling the front bolts after the bumper is back in place (step 7). All bolts must have Loctite Red applied to their threads before final tightening.

These cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame and must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. The cables must remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed. However, these permanent baseplate safety cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The cables should be secured to a solid piece of the frame of the vehicle. The manual shows two recommended options: Option #1 for baseplates with convenience link tabs, and Option #2 for baseplates without convenience link tabs. Be sure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do this on both sides of the vehicle.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do NOT use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do NOT use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.

Blue Ox offers a three-year limited warranty to the original retail purchaser. The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. The warranty is valid only if the customer warranty card is returned within 30 days of purchase and a copy of the original invoice accompanies any warranty claim. The warranty does not cover incorrect or improper installation, improper use, modification, neglect, failure to properly service and maintain, misuse, accident, normal wear and tear, paint, or rust. The warranty is non-transferable and does not cover loss of use, loss of time, inconvenience, or other consequential damages.
