Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

The BX2195 baseplate is designed for the 2007-11 Ford Ranger XLT 4WD and the 2011 Ford Ranger Edge 2WD. If your Ranger is a different model year, trim level, or drivetrain configuration, it may not fit. Contact Blue Ox Customer Care at (402) 385-3051 to confirm fitment for your specific vehicle.
No. The RangeFinderII, Adventurer, Acclaim, and Ambassador tow bars cannot be used with the BX2195 baseplate due to the design of the removable tabs. Motorhome mount tow bars are recommended for use with this baseplate. Adapters, except the BX8833 and BX88151, also cannot be used.
The Acclaim tow bar may be used with the BX2195 baseplate, but it will not fold and store on the front of the vehicle. Motorhome mount tow bars are the recommended choice for this baseplate.
Required tools are: 13MM socket, 15MM socket, 18MM socket, 3/4" socket, 3/8" socket, 17/32" drill bit, drill, flat screwdriver, hammer, vise grips, and Loctite RED. A power drill is acceptable but be aware of torque and drill bit length dangers.

The BX8869 Bulb and Socket Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle. The manual does not state whether it is required or optional. Contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051 to confirm whether it is necessary for your installation.
Yes. The front bumper must be removed. Using an 18MM socket, remove two hex nuts from underneath the vehicle on the backside of the bumper on both sides. Unplug the foglights if available. The bumper will be reinstalled after baseplate installation.
Yes. The belly pan must be removed. Using a 13MM socket, remove two bolts and one push pin (gray arrow) with a flat screwdriver from both sides. Set these aside for later reinstallation.
Yes. The tow hooks must be removed and will not be reinstalled. Place cardboard over the radiator to prevent bending fins. Using a 15MM socket, remove three bolts behind the tow hooks (shown in inset circle) on both sides.
Yes. The fascia and air dam must be removed for installation. They will be reinstalled after the baseplate installation is complete.
Yes. Two holes must be drilled using a 17/32" drill bit. While using the baseplate as a template, drill the two holes located inside the baseplate closest to the radiator on both sides. Additionally, drill the last hole on the end of the baseplate using the same 17/32" drill bit on both sides.
A 17/32" drill bit is required. This is used to drill holes in the frame for the nut plates.
Minor adjustments may be necessary to compensate for manufacturer tolerances. These may include filing a hole slightly, bending electrical rods, or bending end plates. If the hole in the frame end is not quite big enough to install the nut plate, use a hammer to widen the opening.
The manual provides a generic torque chart showing 1/2" Grade 5 bolts should be torqued to 78 foot-pounds and Grade 8 bolts to 119 foot-pounds. However, the specific torque value for the 1/2-13 X 1 1/2" Grade 5 bolts used in the BX2195 is referenced as being on page 3 of the Baseplate Towing General Instructions, which is not included in this document. Apply Loctite RED to all bolts before tightening and refer to the complete General Instructions for the exact specification.
Yes. Loctite RED must be applied to all bolts before tightening. This is a required step in the installation process.

If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. Two 36" Class III safety cables are included with the BX2195. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame and must not mount against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables are to be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate (gray arrow). The recommended installation attaches the cables to the frame of the vehicle (white arrow). If additional options interfere with suggested mounting, secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the instructions included with the permanent baseplate safety cables. Be sure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do this on both sides of the vehicle.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications.
Be sure that all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning before installing the fascia. After installation, remove the cardboard used to protect the radiator and reinstall the belly pan, bumper, bolts, and pushpin. The installation is then complete. Install the tow bar and safety cables according to the instructions provided in their packages.

No. Use only genuine factory replacement parts on the baseplate. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Failing to follow these instructions will void the manufacturer's warranty.
The warranty will be voided if: (1) you fail to follow or alter the installation instructions in either installation or required equipment, or (2) you tow behind a non-motorized vehicle.
