Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The tail light wiring kit is not included with the baseplate. Blue Ox recommends the BX8869 tail light wiring kit for standard vehicles or the BX8848 for vehicles with LED lights. These must be ordered separately and installed according to their own instructions.

Before installation, remove the plastic shields from both tow hooks. If your vehicle has a plastic shroud, it will be removed during installation and reinstalled afterward. The belly pan will also be removed and reinstalled. Place all removed components on a flat, sturdy surface. Ensure you have all required tools (10MM, 15MM, 9/16", and 3/4" sockets and wrenches), a torque wrench, Loctite Red, and a utility knife. Have the tail light wiring kit instructions available if you plan to install wiring.
The installation sequence is: (1) remove plastic shields from tow hooks; (2) if equipped, remove plastic shroud bolts and set shroud aside; (3) remove and set aside belly pan; (4) remove factory tow hooks; (5) identify and attach the correct support brackets (tapered edge for driver side, square edge for passenger side); (6) attach inner and outer side plates, leaving bolts loose; (7) reinstall existing tow hook bolts; (8) attach baseplates to side plates and tighten all bolts with Loctite Red; (9) attach permanent safety cables; (10) reinstall belly pan; (11) trim and reinstall plastic shroud if equipped. All bolts must be tightened to the appropriate torque specification using Loctite Red.
There are two support bracket styles. The tapered edge brackets are for the driver side of the vehicle, and the square edge brackets are for the passenger side. The plates with the welded spacer are installed toward the inside of the vehicle. Ensure you use the correct bracket style for each side.
During installation, the inner and outer side plates are attached with bolts left loose. Once the baseplates are attached to the side plates using 3/8" × 1-1/4" bolts, all bolts are tightened at that time. All bolts must be tightened with Loctite Red applied to the threads and torqued to the appropriate specification. The belly pan bolts are also tightened after attachment.
