Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.

The first step is to remove five plastic push pins from the top front of the fascia on both sides of the vehicle using a Phillips screwdriver. Set the pins aside to be reinstalled later. This provides access to the components underneath.
Yes, drilling is required. The installation involves drilling a 5/16" hole to relocate ground wires (step 7), drilling three holes using the baseplate as a template (step 16), and drilling a 1-1/4" hole saw hole in the bottom of the frame for nut plates on both sides (step 14). A reciprocating saw is also required to trim the area below the bumper.
Trimming of the fascia is required. Using a reciprocating saw, trim out the area below the bumper by measuring in 1-3/4" from the side of frame below the metal bumper, cutting under the bumper then straight down (step 11). On the back side of the plastic piece remaining, cut from the top straight down the center and trim away the backing to leave a flat surface (step 13). Additionally, align the fascia to its original position and mark and remove the area needed for the attachment tab receiver to come through (step 20).
The following must be removed: five plastic push pins from the fascia top (step 1), two metric bolts from the air intake housing (step 2), one screw from each wheel well (step 3), five metric bolts from the belly pan (step 4), three plastic push pins from the fascia bottom edge (step 5), the washer reservoir with its bolts, hoses, and wires (step 6), the plastic guard using a utility knife and then a 10MM bolt (steps 8-9), the tow hook bolts using a 14MM socket (step 12). All removed items should be set aside for reinstallation.
Using a 5/16" drill bit, drill a hole and attach the ground wires with a 1/4"-20 x 3/4" bolt and a 1/4"-20 whiz nut on the back. This must be done on both sides of the vehicle. The manual shows the relocation from position 7A to 7B in the installation diagram.
The baseplate is secured in multiple stages: (1) Slide the baseplate up level with the frame and clamp it with vise grips (step 15). (2) Put support plates on and start three existing bolts, aligning two holes with the baseplate on both sides. Remove the existing three bolts holding the tow hook (step 12) and replace them with 10MM-1.25 x 45MM hex bolts and 10MM lock washers (step 17). Tighten the bolts and be sure to use Loctite RED on all bolts. This must be done on both sides of the vehicle.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate (shown in gray in step 19). The cables should be secured to a solid piece of the frame as shown in white in the diagram. The manual notes that additional options may interfere with suggested mounting; in such cases, secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the instructions included with the permanent baseplate safety cables. Be sure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do this on both sides of the vehicle. All bolts must be treated with Loctite RED before tightening according to these specifications.
