There is nothing like the luxury and power that go along with heavy-duty towing. 5th wheel RVs offer a deluxe, home-away-from-home experience unlike any other, while gooseneck trailers possess a strength that far surpasses most other trailer options. As with any trailer, however, 5th wheels and goosenecks must be equipped with the proper lighting and electrical systems, and tend to require even more complex connectors than a standard receiver-type trailer setup. Make things simple with a CURT 5th wheel / gooseneck extension harness. These wiring harnesses are designed to put an extra connector socket in the bed of your pickup truck while still retaining power to the rear connector socket mounted on your bumper. This is done by plugging into the back of the existing original equipment (OEM) harness and routing through the body of the truck to a hole in the truck bed, providing a connector that is ready to accommodate your 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer. This CURT extension harness is designed to work with 7-way RV blade connectors and comes in a length of 10'. It is compatible with certain models of Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Nissan, Ram and Toyota (see application to verify fitment). Yes. Step 1 of the installation requires you to locate the vehicle battery on the driver side under the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal before proceeding with any other steps.
Carefully release the gray locking clip and gently pull the connector apart while holding down on the connector locking latch. This will separate the 7-way connector from the vehicle wiring harness.
Insert the longer of the paired connectors into the vehicle wiring harness connector. Make sure it is fully inserted with locking tabs in place. The shorter connector goes into the rear of the factory 7-way socket.
Locate a suitable mounting point on the driver's side between the rear post and the wheel well and route the harness to this location. Be sure the harness will not pinch or bind when turning.
Using a hole saw, drill a 2 1/8" hole in the desired location in the sidewall. After drilling, use a metal file to smooth the edges of the hole to prevent abrasion of the harness or connector.
Using the connector as a template, drill four 7/64" mounting screw holes in the sidewall. These holes are used to secure the 7-way connector to the vehicle using the provided self-tapping screws.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. This is especially important when drilling through the sidewall.
Test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. This should be done after the connector is mounted and before reconnecting the battery terminal.
After testing for proper function, secure the extension harness cable to the vehicle using the cable ties provided. This prevents the harness from moving or becoming damaged during vehicle operation.
Do not exceed the product rating or tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. This ensures safe operation and prevents damage to the wiring harness and vehicle electrical system.
