Connect to your lifestyle with a custom hitch receiver from CURT. All of our custom hitches are designed for a vehicle-specific fit, manufactured with pride, finished for industry-leading rust resistance and tested to rigorous SAE J684 standards for safety. This class 1 trailer hitch and ball mount combination is designed for a custom fit on select years of the BMW 328xi and 335xi (see application info to verify fitment). The hitch integrates with the vehicle's frame and provides a useful and dependable 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver. The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. No matter where you're headed or which season of the year you?re towing in, this CURT hitch is equipped for long-lasting resilience to the elements. It features an open-back receiver for easy cleaning, and it comes with all the hardware necessary for the installation.

Required tools include: ratchet; 8mm and 10mm sockets; 11/16" and 1/2" sockets; 18mm open-end or box wrench; 5/8" open-end or box wrench; small disk grinder; torque wrench; tape measure; marker; rotary tool with small disk grinder; and safety glasses. A 17/32" drill bit is required on some models (gas models with single muffler only). Proper tools will greatly improve installation quality and reduce installation time.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected. Contact CURT Technical Support at 800.798.0813 for guidance on this step.
Drilling is required on some models only. Specifically, drilling is required on gas models with a single muffler. If your vehicle has these characteristics and mounting holes are not already present in the vehicle crossmember, you will need to drill 17/32" holes using the mounting strap as a template. If holes are already present, no drilling is necessary.
If drilling is required, you must drill 17/32" holes into the vehicle crossmember. Use the mounting strap as a template to mark the hole locations. A 17/32" drill bit is required. Drilling is only necessary on some models (gas models with single muffler only) and only if holes are not already present.
Yes, you must trim one underbody panel during installation. The trim diagram on page 5 shows the specific dimensions and location of the trim. The trim dimensions are: 2.00 in, 0.75 in, 1.13 in, 2.00 in, 1.75 in, and 3.25 in. After trimming, both underbody panels are reinstalled.
Two people may be required to ease installation. While one person may be able to complete the installation, having a second person available will help, particularly when lifting the hitch into position and managing the mounting strap.
The existing 12mm nuts from the bumper attachment studs will be reused. In Step 2, you remove two 12mm nuts from each bumper attachment (four total). These same nuts are then used in Step 4 to secure the hitch to the studs. Additionally, the 14 fasteners that secure the underbody panels are removed in Step 1 and reinstalled in Step 9.
The fishwire technique is used to thread 1/2" carriage bolts and CM-SP6 spacers into the vehicle crossmember. The manual includes a fishwire technique diagram (referenced as 'See FISHWIRE TECHNIQUE above' in Step 5) that shows how to use fishwire to guide the bolts and spacers into the crossmember holes. This technique allows you to secure the mounting strap to the crossmember without removing other components.
Torque all fasteners as follows: 7/16" hardware to 70 ft-lbs; 12mm hardware to 82 ft-lbs; and 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs. These torque values must be applied in Step 8 after all fasteners are installed. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightness.
All 7/16" hardware on the CURT 11033 must be torqued to 70 ft-lbs. This includes the hex bolts and fasteners used to attach the mounting strap to the hitch.
All 12mm hardware on the CURT 11033 must be torqued to 82 ft-lbs. This includes the existing bumper attachment nuts that secure the hitch to the vehicle studs.
All 1/2" hardware on the CURT 11033 must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs. This includes the carriage bolts and flange nuts that attach the mounting strap to the vehicle crossmember.
The CURT 11033 includes: 16 x 7/16" washers; 2 x 7/16-14 x 1 1/4" hex bolts; 2 x 7/16-14" hex flange nuts; 2 x 1/2-13 x 1 1/2" carriage bolts; 2 x HFN 1213 hex flange nuts; 2 x CM-SP6 square hole spacers (0.250 x 1.00 x 3.00"); and 2 x 1/2" fishwire. All non-trailer loads (wheel-less loads) applied to the CURT 11033 must be supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. After installation is complete, periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This ongoing maintenance is critical to safe operation. Check the hitch before each use and at regular intervals to verify that no fasteners have loosened and that the hitch structure has not been damaged.
The manual recommends that you periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. While a specific interval is not provided, best practice is to inspect the hitch before each towing use and at regular intervals (such as monthly or before long trips) to verify fastener tightness and structural integrity.
