The hitch integrates with the vehicle's frame and provides a useful and dependable 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver. The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. Yes, if you are carrying non-trailer (wheel-less) loads. CURT recommends the use of stabilizing straps (part 18050) for all non-trailer loads. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads with auxiliary stabilizing straps will void the product warranty. For trailer loads, stabilizing straps are not required, but you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Required tools include: ratchet, 12 mm socket, 11/16" socket, 3/4" socket, torque wrench, die grinder (or metal shears as an alternative), safety glasses, utility knife, and the included 7/16" fishwire tool (part CM-438-FW). You will also need silicone compound to seal the drain holes. Using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the installation and reduce installation time.

No drilling is required. However, you must remove material between adjacent holes in the frame rail using metal shears or a die grinder to enlarge the access hole and allow the head of a 7/16" carriage bolt to pass through. This enlargement must be done on both sides of the vehicle. The sides of the enlarged hole should be dressed with a file. This is a permanent modification to the vehicle frame.
Yes. You must remove plastic rivets from supports on the bottom edge of the bumper fascia. Rivets are released by first pulling out the center post approximately 1/4", then pushing the rivet out by hand. These rivets are removed in step 4 and re-attached in step 13 after the hitch is installed.
Installation follows this sequence: (1) remove spare tire; (2) remove rubber plug from front drain hole and bonded covering from rear drain hole in trunk pan; (3) lower exhaust; (4) remove plastic rivets from bumper fascia; (5) enlarge frame rail access holes using metal shears or die grinder; (6) fishwire 7/16" carriage bolt and small spacer through enlarged hole; (7) raise hitch into position; (8) install flange nuts and finger tighten; (9) attach trunk strap using 1/2" carriage bolts; (10) install large spacer blocks through drain holes with silicone compound; (11) adjust spacers and hitch to be square; (12) torque all fasteners; (13) re-attach bumper fascia; (14) raise exhaust; (15) replace spare tire.
Fishwire is a technique used to thread fasteners through tight or difficult-to-access spaces. The manual includes a fishwire tool (part CM-438-FW) for this purpose. In step 6, you use the fishwire tool to thread a 7/16" carriage bolt and small spacer block through the enlarged access hole in the frame rail and out the existing hole in the frame rail. This allows you to position the bolt before raising the hitch into place.
Silicone compound is used to ensure an air-tight seal when installing the large spacer blocks and 1/2" carriage bolts through the drain holes in the trunk pan. This prevents water and moisture from entering the trunk through these holes. Apply silicone compound before installing the fasteners in step 10.
Torque all 7/16" fasteners to 70 lb-ft and all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft. These torque values are applied in step 12 after the hitch has been adjusted to be square with the vehicle. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightness.
