This class 1 trailer hitch and ball mount combination is designed for a custom fit on select years of the Volkswagen Beetle (see application info to verify fitment). The hitch integrates with the vehicle's frame and provides a useful and dependable 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver. The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 1,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 150 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. It features an open-back receiver for easy cleaning, and it comes with all the hardware necessary for the installation.

The hitch includes: two CM-SP17 square hole spacers (0.250 x 1.25 x 2.50"), two 1/2"-13 x 1.5" carriage bolts, two HFN 1213 hex flange nuts, and two 1/2" fishwire pieces. The factory M12 bolts removed from your vehicle are retained and reused during installation.
Yes. In Step 1, you remove the existing factory M12 bolts from the driver and passenger side of your vehicle and retain them. These bolts are reinstalled in Step 4, where they pass through the hitch and into the existing vehicle weldnuts.
Reverse fishwire refers to threading the 1/2"-13 x 1.5" carriage bolts and CM-SP17 spacers into the existing weldnuts on the driver and passenger side frame rails. The fishwire hardware (included in the kit) is used to guide and secure these bolts into the frame rail weldnuts before the hitch is raised into position.
Torque the 1/2"-13 hardware (carriage bolts and hex flange nuts) to 110 lb-ft.
Torque the M12-1.50 factory bolts to 83 lb-ft.
All non-trailer loads (wheel-less loads) applied to this hitch must be supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. CURT recommends the use of 18050 stabilizing straps for all non-trailer loads.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This ongoing inspection is critical to safe operation.
This hitch is designed for use with ball mount D-55001 or 45501. Euro mount options are available: part number 45571 (1 7/8" ball) and part number 45572 (2" ball).
