The hitch integrates with the vehicle's frame and provides a useful and dependable 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver. The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. Yes, the heat shield must be trimmed as required to allow the carriage bolts to pass through. The trimmed heat shield is then clamped between the hitch and the vehicle frame during installation.
Installation sequence is: (1) remove underbody panel, (2) support and lower exhaust by removing isolators, (3) remove tie-down/exhaust hanger brackets, (4) remove heat shields and enlarge frame rail holes using die grinder, then reverse fishwire bolts and spacers into holes, (5) raise hitch into position and attach using fasteners from removed brackets, (6) torque fasteners, (7) raise exhaust and reinstall isolators, (8) on single exhaust models only, trim underbody panel, (9) reinstall underbody cover.
Lower the exhaust 6-10 inches by removing the rubber isolators by each muffler, 1 hanger on the passenger side by the muffler, and 1-2 center isolators. Leave the isolator by the engine attached.
The hitch is attached using the fasteners removed from the tie-down/exhaust hanger brackets in step 3. These existing fasteners are reused to attach the hitch to the vertical flange and frame rail. The hitch also uses 2 carriage bolts (7/16-14 x 1 1/4, grade 8) and 2 hex flange nuts (7/16-14) supplied with the kit, along with 2 square hole spacers (CM-SP2).
Two 7/16" fishwires are provided to reverse fishwire the carriage bolts and spacers into the enlarged holes in the frame rails on each side. This allows you to thread the bolts through from the inside of the frame without direct access.
Torque all 10mm fasteners to 56 lb-ft and all 7/16" fasteners to 70 lb-ft.
