The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. The CURT 11406 is designed for use with ball mount 45521. Euro mount options are available: 45571 (1 7/8-inch ball) or 45572 (2-inch ball).
The kit includes: one 3/8-16 x 1.00 x 1.88-inch U-bolt, two 7/16-14 carriage bolts (one 1-inch and one 1.5-inch), two 7/16-inch fishwire pieces, four 7/16-14 hex flange nuts, two CM-SP2 square hole spacers, one CM-SP22 round hole spacer, and two HFN3816 hex flange nuts.
Installation involves lowering the exhaust by removing two rear rubber isolators from the muffler, using fishwire hardware to secure carriage bolts through existing frame holes, inserting a U-bolt through the tow loop, and securing the hitch to the frame rails with spacers and flange nuts. No drilling is required.
Fishwire is a technique used to guide hardware through existing holes in the frame rails. For the CURT 11406, you reverse fishwire a 7/16-14 x 1.5-inch carriage bolt and SP2 spacer through the driver side hole, and a 7/16-14 x 1-inch carriage bolt and SP2 spacer through the passenger side hole. Leave fishwires attached to prevent loss of hardware inside the frame rail.
The manual specifies that the longer 7/16-14 x 1.5-inch carriage bolt must be installed on the driver side and the shorter 7/16-14 x 1-inch bolt on the passenger side. This is part of the design to ensure proper fitment and load distribution.
Two types of spacers are used: CM-SP2 square hole spacers (two included) are placed under the carriage bolts at the frame rail attachment points, and one CM-SP22 round hole spacer is placed on top of the driver side plate between the frame rail and hitch plate. These spacers ensure proper alignment and load distribution.
Insert the 3/8-inch U-bolt through the tow loop. Raise the hitch into position and loosely secure it to the U-bolt using two 3/8-inch flange nuts (HFN3816). Do not fully tighten until all other fasteners are in place.
First, loosely secure the hitch to the U-bolt and frame rails. Then torque all 7/16-inch hardware to 70 ft-lbs and all 3/8-inch hardware to 45 ft-lbs. Finally, raise and secure the exhaust back into position.
The muffler hangers may need to be bent slightly for clearance when raising the exhaust back into position after hitch installation. This is not always required but should be checked during final assembly.
The exhaust must be lowered by removing the two rear-most rubber isolators from the muffler to provide clearance for the hitch installation. The exhaust is then raised and secured back into position after the hitch is installed.
All 7/16-inch hardware on the CURT 11406 should be torqued to 70 ft-lbs.
