The hitch integrates with the vehicle's frame and provides a useful and dependable 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver. The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. No, drilling is not required. The installation uses existing vehicle studs and fasteners. However, trimming of the heat shield is required.
The heat shield must be trimmed according to the trim diagram provided in the manual. The trim line is marked 2.50 inches from the bend line, and the section beyond that line should be removed. After trimming, the heat shield is reinstalled.
Installation follows this sequence: (1) Remove tail lights by removing chrome trim, then 3 screws from each light, then bulb assembly, then plastic tabs. (2) Pull fender flare away and remove hidden fastener on each side using offset Phillips screwdriver or wrench with Phillips bit. (3) Remove remaining bumper cover fasteners and remove bumper cover. (4) Remove bumper beam by removing 4 M12-1.5 nuts and save them. (5) Remove plastic bumper support (6 nuts) and heat shield (2 nuts), trim heat shield, and reinstall it. (6) Raise hitch into position over bumper beam studs, reinstall plastic bumper support, then reinstall bumper beam with saved nuts and torque to 79 ft-lbs. (7) Reinstall bumper cover by reversing steps 1–3.
Yes, the bumper cover must be removed. First remove the chrome trim, then remove 3 screws from each tail light, remove the bulb assemblies, and release the 3 plastic tabs holding the tail light housings. Then pull the fender flare away and remove the hidden fastener on each side. Finally, remove the remaining fasteners securing the bumper cover and remove it carefully to prevent damage.
The M12-1.5 nuts securing the bumper beam must be torqued to 79 ft-lbs. These are the nuts removed in Step 4 and reinstalled in Step 6 after the hitch is positioned.
All non-trailer (wheel-less) loads applied to CURT hitch 11417 must be supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. The manual recommends the use of 18050 stabilizing straps for all non-trailer loads.
