A CURT trailer hitch is the key to pursuing your passions, whether you're taking the family boat out for an afternoon on the water or packing up the mountain bikes for a day on the trails. This CURT class 2 hitch is perfect for towing a small trailer, such as a boat trailer, lightweight camper or utility trailer. It can also be used to mount a hitch cargo carrier or bike rack (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 2 trailer hitch is made for a vehicle-specific fit. It is engineered to seamlessly integrate with select years of the Subaru Forester (see application info to verify fitment). It is rated for 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. It is also equipped with 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" hitch receiver to accept the included ball mount. The ball mount that comes with this hitch kit has a 3/4" trailer ball hole and can be positioned in the drop or rise orientation for level towing with your specific trailer (trailer ball not included). Like all CURT custom receiver hitches, this class 2 hitch is designed, manufactured, finished and tested with the utmost care. It is engineered for a precise fit, easy installation, maximum towing strength and an integrated look on the vehicle. It is also tested to SAE J684 protocols for safety. This class 2 trailer hitch is finished with our industry-leading dual-coat process for unparalleled rust, chip and UV resistance. It is descaled for a smooth surface, submersed in liquid A-coat for rust prevention inside and out, covered with a highly durable powder coat, and finally co-cured for a dependable shield against the elements. This class 2 hitch comes with a ball mount, hitch pin and mounting hardware for a complete installation.

Yes, this hitch is designed for the Subaru Forester. It is rated for a gross load capacity of 3,500 lbs trailer weight and 350 lbs tongue weight. Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
This hitch is designed for use with ballmount # D-55001 or 45501.
You will need: flat head screwdriver, die grinder with carbide bit (or round file), drill with 17/32" drill bit, ratchet, 3/4" socket, 10" extension, and torque wrench.
Yes. You must lower the exhaust by removing five rubber hangers before installation. Use spray lubricant or soapy water on the hanger rod and isolator to ease removal. The exhaust is reinstalled after the hitch is secured.
Yes. You must enlarge the frame rail holes using a 17/32" drill bit to allow 1/2-13 bolt threads to protrude through the frame rail. You must also modify one hole using a die grinder with carbide bit (or round file) to allow insertion of 1/2-13 bolts and CM-SP10 spacers.
All 1/2-13 fasteners must be torqued to 110 lb-ft.
The hitch weight is 31 lbs.
When used as a weight-carrying hitch, the gross load capacity is 3,500 lbs trailer weight and 350 lbs tongue weight. Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
The kit includes: two 1/2" fishwire, four 1/2-13 x 1 1/2" carriage bolts, four CM-SP10 square hole spacers (0.250 x 1.00 x 2.50"), and four 1/2-13 hex flange nuts.
The estimated installation time is 30 minutes.
Fishwire is used to thread the 1/2-13 carriage bolts and CM-SP10 spacers into the frame rail holes before the hitch is raised into position. The manual includes separate diagrams for the standard fishwire technique (for hole A) and the reverse pull fishwire technique (for hole B).
1. Lower the exhaust by removing five rubber hangers. 2. Remove frame rail hole plugs and enlarge/modify holes as shown in the Heat Shield Diagram. 3. Fishwire 1/2-13 carriage bolts and CM-SP10 spacers into hole A. 4. Reverse pull fishwire 1/2-13 carriage bolts and CM-SP10 spacers into hole B. 5. Raise the hitch into position and secure with 1/2-13 hex flange nuts. 6. Torque all 1/2-13 fasteners to 110 lb-ft. 7. Reinstall the exhaust and rubber isolators.
Using a screwdriver, remove the frame rail hole plugs. For hole B, enlarge it using a 17/32" drill bit to allow 1/2-13 bolt threads to protrude through the frame rail. For hole A, remove the plug and modify it using a die grinder with carbide bit (or round file) to allow insertion of 1/2-13 bolts and CM-SP10 spacers. Refer to the Heat Shield Diagram for hole locations.
Remove five rubber hangers to lower the exhaust. Use a spray lubricant or soapy water on the hanger rod and isolator to ease removal.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound.
