This CURT class 2 hitch is perfect for towing a small trailer, such as a boat trailer, lightweight camper or utility trailer. It can also be used to mount a hitch cargo carrier or bike rack (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 2 trailer hitch is made for a vehicle-specific fit. It is engineered to seamlessly integrate with select years of the Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ (see application info to verify fitment). It is rated for 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. It is also equipped with 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" hitch receiver to accept the included ball mount. The ball mount that comes with this hitch kit has a 3/4" trailer ball hole and can be positioned in the drop or rise orientation for level towing with your specific trailer (trailer ball not included). Like all CURT custom receiver hitches, this class 2 hitch is designed, manufactured, finished and tested with the utmost care. It is engineered for a precise fit, easy installation, maximum towing strength and an integrated look on the vehicle. It is also tested to SAE J684 protocols for safety. You will need: 7mm socket, 10mm socket, 11/16" socket, 3/4" socket, ratchet, torque wrench, and pry bar. Safety glasses should be worn at all times during installation.
No, drilling is not required. The hitch uses existing frame rail access holes for fastener installation.
Yes, you must temporarily lower the muffler by removing three exhaust hangers (one from each side and one in front of the muffler) to access the installation area. The heat shield must also be temporarily removed by removing nine formed nuts with a 10mm socket. Both the exhaust and heat shield are reinstalled after the hitch is secured and torqued.
You must remove the lower rear air deflector and the bumper fascia. The lower air deflector is removed by taking out three formed nuts and one plastic nut with a 10mm socket. Then remove six screw-with-washer fasteners in the bumper fascia with a 7mm socket. The fascia piece and hardware are returned to the vehicle owner after installation.
Fishwiring is a technique used to route fasteners through the frame rail access holes before the hitch is positioned. You thread 1/2" bolts and spacer blocks through the access hole in both frame rails for the bottom frame hole, and 7/16" bolts and spacer blocks through the same hole into the side mounting holes. The fishwires remain on all fasteners and the 7/16" bolts in the frame until the hitch is raised into position. This allows you to secure the hitch without having to reach behind it.
The hitch includes: two 1/2-13 x 1 1/2" Grade 8 carriage bolts, two HFN 1213 Grade 8 hex flange nuts, two .250 x 1.00 x 2.50" square hole spacers (CM-SP10), four 7/16-14 x 1 1/4" Grade 8 carriage bolts, four 7/16-14 hex flange nuts, four .250 x 1.00 x 2.50" square hole spacers (CM-SP11), two 1/2" fishwires, four 7/16" fishwires, and one bolt kit (12164-50-BK) containing 26 additional fasteners.
Torque all 7/16" fasteners to 70 lb.-ft and all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb.-ft. These torque values are applied after the hitch is raised into position and secured with flange nuts.
Use a 3/4" socket for the 1/2" flange nuts and an 11/16" socket for the 7/16" flange nuts.
Two people may be required to ease installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance.
