Whatever your task at hand -- whether it's launching that boat before daybreak, setting up your camper before the rush or getting a final load to the dump before close -- CURT class 3 trailer hitches offer the strength needed for serious towing. They make it easy to hitch up and Bring It, offering a vehicle-specific fit and the weight capacity to handle a variety of trailers. Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Toyota Highlander (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 6,000 lbs. GTW and 900 lbs. TW. It is also compatible with a weight distribution hitch for level towing and a rating of 8,000 lbs. WD and 900 lbs. WDTW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.

Many models install using existing holes in the vehicle frame, although drilling, trimming or temporary removal of vehicle components may be required for certain applications.

Always compare the hitch rating with your vehicle’s towing capacity and the ratings of every component in your towing setup. The maximum towing capacity is determined by the lowest-rated component.

The kit includes 6 hex bolts (M12-1.25 x 35mm, Class 10.9) and 6 conical-toothed washers (1/2"). The hitch uses existing M12 weldnuts in the vehicle frame for mounting.
You must remove: the driver-side underbody panel (7 fasteners), two rubber plugs from each frame rail, three threaded plastic inserts from the driver-side frame rail, three M12 bolts securing the metal fascia tab and tow loop from the passenger-side frame rail, and one fascia screw and metal fascia tab from the passenger-side underbody panel. No, drilling is not required. The hitch uses existing M12 weldnuts in the vehicle frame. However, trimming of the lower fascia exhaust air deflector and underbody panel is required.
Mark the lower fascia exhaust air deflector 2 inches from the hinge and trim as shown in the manual to allow room for the hitch. Dimensions for underbody panel trimming are approximate (4" and 3" as shown in the trim diagram). Confirm fit prior to trimming, and use the ribs of the underbody panel as cutting guides.
All M12-1.25 hex bolts must be torqued to 86 ft-lbs. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightening and to help prevent damage to the product or vehicle.
1. Remove seven fasteners from the driver-side underbody panel and lower it. 2. Remove two rubber plugs from each frame rail and three threaded plastic inserts from the driver-side frame rail. 3. Remove three M12 bolts securing the metal fascia tab and tow loop from the passenger-side frame rail, and remove the fascia screw and metal fascia tab from the underbody panel. 4. Mark and trim the lower fascia exhaust air deflector 2" from the hinge. 5. Raise the hitch over the exhaust, align holes with frame weldnuts, and secure using provided M12 bolts and conical-toothed washers, torqued to 86 ft-lbs. 6. Mark and trim the underbody panel using the trim diagram, then reattach using the fasteners removed in Step 1.
The conical-toothed washers should be placed with the toothed side facing the hitch side plate, as shown in the assembly diagram on page 2. The hex bolt passes through the washer into the frame weldnut.
Spray lubricant or compressed air into the weldnut holes to remove debris. For heavy debris, use a wire brush. Take care not to damage the threads.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce installation time.
Periodic inspection of the trailer hitch should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure. The manual does not specify the inspection interval. Contact CURT at 877.287.8634 for recommended inspection frequency.
