A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 3,500 lbs. GTW and 350 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Ford Ranger (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware for a complete installation and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Yes, the CURT 2" Front Receiver Hitch, Select Ford Ranger Trailer Hitch (Part #BKDK31063) is designed to fit the 1992-2011 Ford Ranger.
The CURT 2" Front Receiver Hitch, Select Ford Ranger Trailer Hitch (Part #BKDK31063) Drilling is required for installation. Typical installation time is 30-60 minutes. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Part number 31063 fits Ford Ranger and Mazda B-Series vehicles, with one important exclusion: it does not fit models with a front cross member. Check your vehicle's specifications or consult your owner's manual to confirm whether your model has a front cross member before purchasing.
The maximum straight line pull capacity is 9,000 lbs. This rating applies only when the winch cable does not exceed 15 degrees up or down from horizontal and 45 degrees left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles or the line pull rating may overload the winch, winch mount, and front mounted receiver.
You must check your vehicle's Gross Weight Rating (GAWR) before installation. Consult your owner's manual or the specification plate on your driver's door frame. Measure your vehicle's gross front axle weight by placing the front wheels of the loaded vehicle on a scale. Do not exceed the GAWR, as this may overload the front axle and suspension, resulting in accident, property damage, and personal injury.
Lower the plastic radiator shield and return it to the owner. For 2WD Rangers, also remove the lower fascia. These components must be removed to access the attachment points.
Slight trimming of the bumper fascia may be necessary where it contacts the receiver during installation. The manual indicates this is not always required but should be checked during step 3 when raising the receiver into position. Trim only as needed to prevent interference.
Yes. During installation, you must enlarge the rearmost holes in the frame using the receiver as a guide. The manual does not specify the final hole size, so you should follow the receiver's positioning to determine the required enlargement.
The kit includes 4 carriage bolts (part 10-10272, 1/2-13 UNC, 1-3/4 in, grade 8), 4 serrated flange nuts (part 20-00062, 1/2-13 UNC, grade 8), 4 square hole spacers (part CM-SP12, 0.250 x 1.00 x 2.00 in), and 4 pieces of 1/2 in fishwire.
The fishwire spacers are used at both the forward and rearward attachment points to position the carriage bolts correctly before raising the receiver into place. They help align the fasteners with the frame holes.
After raising the receiver into position, check the clearance of the transmission cooler line. If it contacts the receiver, bend or tie it back to prevent contact. This step is critical to avoid damage to the cooler line during operation.
All 1/2 in fasteners must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs. This applies to the carriage bolts and serrated flange nuts used at both forward and rearward attachment points.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but regular inspection is essential for safe operation.
No. Never use a ball mount as an anchor point for a tow strap or winch cable. Severe personal injury or death could result. Use only OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount for attachment of tow straps or winch cables.
For maximum line pull rating, the winch cable must not exceed 15 degrees up or down from horizontal, and 45 degrees left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and front mounted receiver.
Attach the return cable to the tow hook or recovery eye, not to the winch mount. Attaching the return cable to the winch mount may overload the winch mount and/or front mounted receiver.
After installation, ensure that: (1) the license plate is repositioned if obstructed; (2) vehicle lights are not obstructed; (3) air flow into the grille opening is not blocked; (4) driver view is not obstructed; and (5) the hitch does not reduce approach angle excessively. Rear wheel traction may be reduced, so reduce speed and drive with caution.
