A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Toyota Sequoia and Tundra (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware for a complete installation and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Yes, Curt part number 31180 is designed for Toyota Tundra and Sequoia models. However, the manual does not specify which model years are compatible. Contact Curt Manufacturing or consult a fitment database to confirm compatibility with your specific vehicle year and configuration.
The manual lists a gross load capacity for weight-carrying use, but the specific values are blank in the document provided. The manual emphasizes: "DO NOT EXCEED VEHICLE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDED TOWING CAPACITY." Consult your vehicle owner's manual or the specification plate on your driver's door frame for your vehicle's towing capacity limits.
You must remove the factory tie-down loops and tow hooks from under the front frame (two bolts on each side). Return this hardware to the customer. The manual does not specify whether any other components must be removed.
Yes. You must drill one 1/2" hole through the underside of the frame on each side using the front hole in the hitch side plates as a template. This is a permanent modification. The manual also notes that enlarging the tie-down loop holes in plastic splash guards may be required; if needed, trim out 1" of material towards the front of the vehicle frame using shears or heavy scissors.
1. Remove factory tie-down loops and tow hooks (two bolts each side) from under the front frame. 2. Enlarge tie-down loop holes in plastic splash guards if needed by trimming 1" of material towards the front. 3. Raise hitch to frame and hand-tighten using 12mm bolts and conical toothed washers. 4. Using the front hole in hitch side plates as a template, drill 1/2" holes through the frame underside (one each side). 5. Thread fishwire carriage bolt and blocks through the frame access hole and out the drilled holes; remove fishwire and fasten with 1/2" flange nut. 6. Torque all M12 bolts to 86 lb.-ft. and all 1/2" hardware to 110 lb.-ft.
Torque all M12 bolts to 86 lb.-ft. Torque all 1/2" hardware (carriage bolts and flange nuts) to 110 lb.-ft. Hand-tighten all bolts initially before final torquing.
The kit includes: 4× M12×1.25 hex head cap screws (grade 10.9), 2× 1/2"-13 UNC carriage bolts (grade 8), 2× 1/2"-13 UNC serrated flange nuts (grade 8), 4× 1/2" split-cone washers, 2× 0.250" × 1.00" × 2.00" square hole spacers, and 2× 1/2" fishwire tools.
The manual does not specify whether battery disconnection is required. Consult your vehicle owner's manual or a qualified installer.
The GAWR is the maximum weight your vehicle's front axle is designed to carry. Do not exceed it when using front-mounted accessories. Exceeding GAWR may overload the front axle and/or suspension, which could result in accident, property damage, and personal injury. Find your GAWR on the specification plate located on your driver's door frame or in your owner's manual. Measure gross front axle weight by placing the front wheels of your loaded vehicle on a scale.
No. Never use a ball mount as an anchor point for a tow strap or winch cable. Severe personal injury or death could result. Use OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount for attachment instead.
For maximum line pull rating, the winch cable must not exceed 15 degrees up or down from horizontal, and must not exceed 45 degrees left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and/or front-mounted receiver.
Attach the return cable to the tow hook or recovery eye, not to the winch mount. Attaching it to the winch mount may overload the winch mount and/or front-mounted receiver.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify a retorque interval or other maintenance procedures.
The hitch extends the front of the vehicle, which may reduce approach angle. Use caution when parking and maneuvering. Do not obstruct driver view, vehicle lights, or the grille opening. Reposition the front-mounted license plate if it becomes obstructed. Rear wheel traction may be reduced, which could affect handling; reduce speed and drive with caution.
