A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 3,500 lbs. GTW and 350 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Toyota Tacoma (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). Yes. Step 1 requires removing the tow loop from the passenger side of the vehicle by removing two M12 bolts with a 17mm socket. You will also remove two M12 bolts that attach the cross beam inserts and save them for later use in the installation.
Only if you have a non-TRD Offroad model. Non-TRD Offroad models require removal of 11 screws from the lower air dam using a 10mm socket. You can then either return the air dam to the owner or trim it as shown in the installation diagram. TRD PRO models require trimming of the skid shield instead to allow clearance for the hitch.

All M12 fasteners must be torqued to 86 lb-ft. All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 ft-lb. A torque wrench is required to achieve these specifications. Torque all fasteners in step 4 of the installation after the hitch is raised into position and all bolts are loosely installed.
The hitch includes: two 1/2-13 UNC Grade 8 bolts (part 10-10287), two 1/2-13 UNC Grade 8 serrated flange nuts (part 20-00062), two 0.250 x 1.00 x 2.00" square hole spacers (part CM-SP12), and two 1/2" fishwires. The existing M12 bolts from the tow loop and cross beam inserts are reused.
Two people may be required to ease installation. While one person may be able to complete the installation, having a second person will help, particularly when raising the hitch into position in step 3.

The hitch includes a welded recovery loop and can be used for recovery and winching. However, you must follow strict guidelines: use only OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount for attachment of a tow strap or winch cable. Never use a ball and/or ball mount as an anchor point, as this could result in severe personal injury or death. The maximum line pull rating requires the winch cable to not exceed 15 degrees up or down from horizontal and 45 degrees left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and/or front mounted receiver.

Do not exceed your vehicle's front axle Gross Weight Rating (GAWR), which is listed on the specification plate on the driver's door frame. Exceeding GAWR may overload the front axle and/or suspension, resulting in accident, property damage, and personal injury. Additionally, do not obstruct vehicle lights, allow free air flow into the grille opening, do not obstruct the driver's view, and reposition the front-mounted license plate if obstructed. The hitch extends the front of the vehicle, which may reduce approach angle, so use caution when parking and maneuvering. Rear wheel traction may be reduced, which could affect handling, so reduce speed and drive with caution.
