A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 3,500 lbs. GTW and 350 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Toyota 4Runner (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware for a complete installation and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

The CURT 2" Front Receiver Hitch, Select Toyota 4Runner Trailer Hitch (Part #BKDK31076) fits 2014-2021 Toyota 4Runner models. The 2021 model year is the last year covered by this part number. For newer models, check for an updated version.
The CURT 2" Front Receiver Hitch, Select Toyota 4Runner Trailer Hitch (Part #BKDK31076) fits the following vehicles: 2014-2021 Toyota 4Runner. Always verify your specific year, make, and model before ordering.
The CURT 2" Front Receiver Hitch, Select Toyota 4Runner Trailer Hitch (Part #BKDK31076) Drilling is not required for installation. Typical installation time is 30-60 minutes. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The CURT 31076 is designed for Toyota 4Runner models from 2014 to current, excluding TRD Pro and Limited trim levels. If your 4Runner is one of these excluded trims, this hitch is not compatible. Verify your model year and trim before purchasing.
The CURT 31076 is rated for a maximum of 3500 lbs trailer weight and 350 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. When used as a straight-line pull (winching), the maximum line pull is 9000 lbs. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower than the hitch rating.
The hitch weight is 40 lbs.
You will need a ratchet, sockets in 14mm, 17mm, 19mm, and 15/16" sizes, a torque wrench, and safety glasses. Using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the installation and reduce installation time.
No, drilling is not required. The hitch uses existing factory weldnuts and bolt holes on the frame rails.
Two people may be required to ease installation, though it may be possible for one person to complete it. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance.
Professional installation takes approximately 20 minutes. For a novice DIY installer, allow approximately 40 minutes.
The kit includes: 2 M10 hex cap screws (HHCS) with 3/8" conical tooth washers, 2 M12 hex cap screws with 1/2" conical tooth washers, 2 5/8" carriage bolts with 5/8" flange nuts, and 2 round hole spacers (part 31076-SP). These fasteners replace existing factory bolts and secure the hitch to the vehicle's frame rails and tow loops.
Remove one hex bolt from the end of each frame rail using a 14mm socket (the lowest outer bolt on each side). Return these bolts to the vehicle owner, as they will be replaced with the included M10 hardware.
Lift the hitch into position, locating the vehicle's tow loops under the hitch mounting plates. The tow loops are factory-installed attachment points on both sides of the frame.
No. Install all fasteners loosely first, then tighten them to final torque specifications only after all bolts are in place. This allows for proper alignment and prevents cross-threading.
All M10 fasteners must be torqued to 48 ft-lbs.
All M12 fasteners must be torqued to 86 ft-lbs.
All 5/8" carriage bolts must be torqued to 180 ft-lbs.
After installation, verify that all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners remain tight and all structural components remain in good condition during ownership.
You must not exceed your vehicle's front axle Gross Weight Rating (GAWR). Consult your owner's manual or the specification plate located on the driver's door frame. Measure gross front axle weight by placing the front wheels of your loaded vehicle on a scale. Exceeding GAWR may overload the front axle and suspension, which could result in accident, property damage, and personal injury.
Yes, the CURT 31076 can be used for vehicle recovery and winching with a maximum straight-line pull of 9000 lbs. However, you must use OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount for attachment of a tow strap or winch cable. Never use a ball mount as an anchor point, as this could result in severe personal injury or death. Observe all winch manufacturer's recommendations, cautions, and warnings.
For maximum line pull rating, the winch cable must not exceed 15 degrees up or down from horizontal, and must not exceed 45 degrees left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and/or front-mounted receiver.
Attach the return cable to the tow hook or recovery eye, not to the winch mount. Attaching the return cable to the winch mount may overload the winch mount and/or front-mounted receiver.
When using front-mounted accessories: (1) Do not exceed your vehicle's front axle GAWR; (2) Reposition the front-mounted license plate if obstructed; (3) Do not obstruct vehicle lights; (4) Allow free airflow into the grille opening; (5) Be aware that rear wheel traction may be reduced, which could affect handling—reduce speed and drive with caution; (6) Remember that accessories extend the front of the vehicle, which may reduce approach angle—use caution when parking and maneuvering; (7) Do not obstruct the driver's view.
Yes, the CURT 31076 complies with safety specifications and requirements for connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5, and SAE J684.
