When your vehicle does not readily provide an electrical connection for hooking up your trailer, CURT electrical converts offer the solution. Working tail lights on your trailer are absolutely essential any time you tow, and a converter provides an effective way to properly equip your vehicle for safe towing. A CURT electrical converter, much like our custom vehicle-to-trailer wiring harnesses, provides a trailer connector on your vehicle by slicing into the vehicle's electrical system. Electrical converters are designed to splice directly into the taillight wiring, rather than plugging into various sockets, giving them the nickname "taillight converters". Though it requires a little extra work compared to a custom wiring harness, a tail light converter offers a reliable, long-term connector solution. This converter wiring kit is intended to be used with the CURT multi-function taillight converter #56236. The multi-function converter requires a direct connection to the vehicle's battery, and the powered converter wiring kit #55152 provides all of the components needed to establish a secure connection. The kit includes 20 feet of 12 gauge wire, a 15-amp fuse, an in-line fuse holder, a 3/8" ring terminal, a butt connector, a 14-1/2" cable tie and eight 6" cable ties. This wiring kit is rated at 15 amps and comes included with the CURT multi-function electrical converter #59236.

The Curt 55152 is a converter wiring kit designed to manage trailer lighting circuits on tow vehicles. It can function as a powered module for two-wire trailer systems and converts vehicle lighting signals to trailer lighting outputs.
The Curt 55152 is designed for 12 volt negative ground systems only. It will not work on vehicles with positive ground electrical systems or 24 volt systems. Verify your vehicle uses a 12 volt negative ground system before installation.
You will need: a crimping tool, wire stripper, and Phillips screwdriver. The kit includes a fuse holder with 15 amp fuse, butt connectors, 12 GA wire or larger, cable ties, double-sided tape, a ring terminal, and a screw for grounding. You may also need a grommet or silicone sealant if routing wire through sheet metal.
Yes. You must disconnect the negative battery cable before wiring the power wire. This is a critical safety step to prevent electrical shock and short circuits during installation.
Route 12 GA wire or larger to the vehicle battery location, taking care to avoid pinch points and hot or rotating components. Use the ring terminal provided to connect the black wire to the positive battery (+) terminal. The battery connection must be fuse protected with a 15 amp fuse maximum, installed after all other steps are complete.
Red wire = Brake signal; Brown wire = Taillight; Yellow wire = Left Turn; Green wire = Right Turn; White wire = Ground; Black wire = Power to battery positive. If using the converter as a powered module for a two-wire system, the red brake wire must be grounded.
Attach the ring terminal of the white ground wire to the vehicle body using the provided screw. Drill a 3/32" hole if necessary. Ensure the connection point is clean and free of paint or corrosion for a solid ground.
Mount the converter using the provided double-sided tape. Choose a location that is secure, protected from moisture, and allows easy access to all wire connections. Avoid areas subject to excessive heat or vibration.
Route the 12 GA power wire to the vehicle battery location, taking care to avoid any pinch points and hot or rotating components. Secure the power wire to the vehicle chassis using the cable ties provided. When passing the power wire through sheet metal, use an existing grommet, add a grommet, or use silicone to protect the wire from sharp edges.
The battery connection must be fuse protected with a 15 amp fuse maximum. Do not exceed this rating. The fuse should be installed after all other installation steps are complete.
Use 12 GA wire or larger for the power connection from the battery to the converter. This ensures safe current delivery and prevents overheating.
Drill a 3/32" hole if necessary to mount the ground wire ring terminal to the vehicle body. Use the provided screw to secure the connection.
Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire. Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Always verify the converter's capacity before connecting it to your trailer lighting system.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be behind or under any surface. This prevents accidental damage to hidden components, wiring, or fuel lines that could cause personal injury or property damage.
