CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing setup. If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness (also called a T-connector) is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your vehicle's electrical system and provides a standard trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular harness provides a 7-way RV blade connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness for certain years of the Ford Ranger (see application info to verify fitment) with a factory 4-way flat. It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power.

Yes, the CURT 56545 Vehicle-Side Custom RV Blade 7-Pin Trailer Wiring Harness, Fits Select Ford Ranger (Part #BKDK56545) is designed to fit the 2024-2026 Ford Ranger.
The CURT 56545 Vehicle-Side Custom RV Blade 7-Pin Trailer Wiring Harness, Fits Select Ford Ranger (Part #BKDK56545) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The Curt 56545 is a 7-way custom harness for trucks with tow capability. It provides electrical connections for trailer lighting and brake functions, including reverse/backup lights, ground, 12-volt power, and trailer brake output. The harness connects to the vehicle's existing 7-way connector near the hitch.
The manual states the harness is for trucks with 7-way connectors and tow capability. The wiring location guide shows truck-specific locations (T1–T5). For specific vehicle year, make, and model compatibility, contact Curt Manufacturing or consult a fitment database, as the manual does not list individual vehicle applications.
Required tools are: ratchet, ratchet extension, 10mm socket, flathead screwdriver, wire cutter, wire stripper, wire crimper, and a test light or multimeter. Proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce time required.
The harness includes: a 7-way custom harness, snap locks for wire attachment, a white ground wire with ring terminal, a 30 amp fuse and fuse holder, a supplied butt connector for the fuse holder, ring terminals, a blue wire for brake output, a black wire for 12-volt power, cable ties, and a 4-flat dust cover. Additional butt connectors are supplied for wire connections.
Yes. Step 1 requires you to locate the vehicle's battery in the engine compartment on the driver side and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Fasten this wire down and away from the battery while completing the installation process. This prevents accidental short circuits and electrical shock.
If replacing an existing harness, yes. Step 2 instructs you to locate the harness on the driver side behind the rear bumper, remove the dust cover, and disconnect the existing harness by pressing down on the housing lock and pulling away from the mating connector. Take care not to damage the locking tabs. The existing harness will not be used once the new harness is installed.
The installation difficulty is rated as Difficult. Installation difficulty levels are based on time and effort involved and may vary depending on the installer's level of expertise, condition of the vehicle, and proper tools and equipment.
Step 3 instructs you to install the custom 7-way harness into the mating connector that was used to power the existing harness. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. This connection is located on the driver side behind the rear bumper.
Step 4 instructs you to locate the taillight connector behind the bumper near the tow plug. Using a test light or multimeter, locate the reverse/backup wire. Route the red blunt-cut wire from the 7-way custom harness to the taillight connector. Using one of the provided snap locks, attach the red wire to the reverse/backup wire.
Step 5 instructs you to locate a grounding point such as an existing screw or bolt in the frame of the vehicle. The area should be free from rust, dirt, and paint—use an abrasive pad or paper to remove rust and paint. Secure the white ground wire with the ring terminal on the existing fastener. If no suitable fastener exists, you may drill a 3/32" pilot hole and use the provided ground screw. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Step 6 instructs you to locate the black and blue blunt-cut wires on the custom 7-way harness. Using the supplied butt connectors, attach the black wire from the custom harness to the black wire on the jacketed duplex wire. Attach the blue wire from the custom harness to the blue wire on the jacketed duplex wire.
Step 7 instructs you to route the black and blue jacketed duplex wire to the front of the vehicle by routing under the vehicle and along the frame rail. Route the wire up through to the engine compartment on the driver side. Secure the power wire to the vehicle chassis using the provided cable ties. When passing the wire through sheet metal, use an existing grommet, add a new grommet, or use silicone to protect the power wire from sharp edges. Avoid any hot components, fuel tank, and moving parts that may cause damage to the wire.
Step 8 instructs you to route the black wire to the positive (+12 volt) battery post. Using the supplied butt connector, attach the fuse holder. Attach the supplied ring terminal to the other end of the fuse holder. Attach the ring terminal to the positive (+12 volt) side of the battery connection. Insert the supplied 30 amp fuse into the fuse holder and close the protective cap.
Step 9A instructs you to route the blue wire to the firewall of the vehicle and into the vehicle cab to attach it to the electric brake output wire (typically blue) on the brake controller using the supplied butt connector. Follow the brake controller manufacturer's instructions for installation.
Step 9B instructs you to tape the end with electrical tape and secure the wire with one of the provided cable ties.
Step 10 instructs you to route the 7-way custom harness from the driver side along the bumper to the center of the vehicle. Mount it near the hitch and connect the 7-way plug into the custom harness plug. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Step 11 instructs you to reconnect the negative battery terminal. Once 12 volt power wire is connected to the harness, verify that the harness is functioning by attaching the battery and testing with a test light, 4-flat tester, or a functioning trailer. Use cable ties as needed to keep the custom harness mounted in place. Reinstall all items removed during install. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
Drilling is optional. Step 5 instructs you to locate a grounding point such as an existing screw or bolt in the frame of the vehicle. If no suitable fastener exists, you may drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the ground screw. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
If drilling is necessary, Step 5 specifies a 3/32" pilot hole for the ground screw. Before drilling, ensure the area is free from rust, dirt, and paint, and check for miscellaneous items hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Step 8 specifies a 30 amp fuse. The fuse is supplied with the harness and must be inserted into the fuse holder that attaches to the black wire at the positive battery connection.
The harness includes: red wire for reverse/backup light connection, white wire for ground, black wire for 12-volt positive power, and blue wire for trailer brake output. The harness also includes a jacketed duplex wire with black and blue wires for routing to the battery.
Step 11 instructs you to verify that the harness is functioning by attaching the battery and testing with a test light, 4-flat tester, or a functioning trailer. The manual also requires using a test light or multimeter during installation (Step 4) to locate the reverse/backup wire in the taillight connector.
Do not exceed the product rating or tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Do not lay tools across the positive battery terminal (typically noted with red covers or a red '+' symbol), as this can cause a ground short leading to sparks and/or electrical shocks. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. When routing wires, avoid hot components, fuel tank, and moving parts that may cause damage to the wire.
Step 7 instructs you to secure the power wire to the vehicle chassis using the provided cable ties. When passing the wire through sheet metal, use an existing grommet, add a new grommet, or use silicone to protect the power wire from sharp edges. Avoid any hot components, fuel tank, and moving parts that may cause damage to the wire.
Step 11 instructs you to verify that the harness is functioning by attaching the battery and testing with a test light, 4-flat tester, or a functioning trailer. Reinstall all items removed during install and install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. The manual does not specify an inspection interval; perform inspections regularly as part of routine vehicle maintenance.
