If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Ford Edge (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

Yes, the Curt 56120 Custom Wiring Harness is designed for Ford Edge vehicles. It is also compatible with SUVs, Mini & Full-Sized Vans (S category). Verify your vehicle matches the application before purchasing.
The Curt 56120 has two amperage ratings: Signal Circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side, and Tail/Running Circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed these ratings or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Do not exceed this fuse rating. Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
You will need a ratchet, 10mm socket, and a cutting tool (such as a utility knife). The manual also references an included CME-PCL-INS sheet for battery routing details.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected before installation. Contact the vehicle manufacturer or Curt Manufacturing for this safety requirement.
Open the vehicle tailgate to access the taillight assemblies. Remove two 10mm bolts securing each taillight in place, then gently pull the taillight outward to remove it.
Locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors behind the taillights. Separate the connectors from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. The custom wiring harness connectors will be similar to these factory connectors. Insert the custom harness between the separated connectors and ensure they are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
On the driver side, route the custom wiring harness end with the yellow wire out to the taillight by going under the rear trim panel and up through the removed grommet. On the passenger side, route the harness end with the green wire behind the removed scuff panel. Remove all vehicle floor coverings, the rear scuff panel, spare tire compartment cover and plastic storage trays to access the routing path.
Drilling may be required. You must locate a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector. If an existing screw with nut is not available in the vehicle frame, you will need to drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Remove the rubber grommet located on both sides of the vehicle between the taillight and the inside of the vehicle. Using a utility knife, make a small slit in the grommet from the center to the outside. This allows the wiring harness to pass through.
Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight. Adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape. Ensure the surface is clean and flat before applying the tape.
Drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided grounding screw. The area should be free of rust, dirt and paint before securing the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
When not in use, roll up the 4-flat connector and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location. When in use, route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Reinstall all items removed during installation. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness functions properly.
Do not exceed the product rating (Signal Circuits 3.0 amps per side, Tail/Running Circuits 6.0 amps total) or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
Remove all vehicle floor coverings, the rear scuff panel, the spare tire compartment cover and all plastic storage trays surrounding the spare tire. These must be removed to access the routing path for the wiring harness.
The Curt 56120 uses color-coded wires: the yellow wire connects to the driver side taillight, the green wire connects to the passenger side taillight, and the white wire is the ground wire. The black power wire routes from the vehicle battery (see included CME-PCL-INS sheet for routing details).
