You will need a 7mm socket, a 10mm socket, a drill with a 3/32" drill bit, a fish tape (for routing the harness through the bumper and wheel well), and a screwdriver. A 3/32" drill bit is required for drilling mounting holes for the ground screw and 4-Flat bracket.
Starting on the driver's side, position the RV harness connector ends containing Yellow wires between the separated vehicle harness connectors. Press the connectors firmly into the vehicle connectors until they lock into place. Pull on the connectors to ensure the locks are engaged. Repeat this process on the passenger side with the Green wire connectors.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill one 3/32" hole for the ground screw mounting location near the taillights, and two 3/32" holes in the engine compartment for the 4-Flat bracket. Take care not to drill through the vehicle body or any exposed surfaces.
Both the ground screw mounting hole and the two 4-Flat bracket mounting holes require 3/32" diameter holes.
Cut the cable ties on the 4-Flat portion of the harness and route it behind the driver's rear wheel well. Use a fish tape to pull the harness up and over from the left to the right side of the rear wheel well cover. Continue routing towards the front of the vehicle along the brake lines all the way up into the engine compartment. Secure with the provided cable ties. Route to the right side around the battery in the engine compartment.
Avoid areas that contain moving parts or could cut, pinch or burn the wires. Do not route the harness near fuel lines, as this may cause fuel to ignite. Failure to follow these warnings may cause property damage, personal injury or loss of life.
Mount the 4-Flat bracket in the engine compartment on the right side around the battery. Use the bracket as a template to mark two holes, drill two 3/32" holes, and attach the bracket using the two screws provided. Take care not to drill through the vehicle body or any exposed surfaces.
The 4-Flat Harness Color Code is: White = Ground, Brown = Tail Lights, Green = Right Turn and Brake Signal, Yellow = Left Turn and Brake Signal.
Locate a clean and accessible mounting location on the vehicle near the RV harness ends within reach of the white wire and ring terminal. Remove any debris or undercoating to expose a clean metal surface. Drill a 3/32" hole and attach the ring terminal on the White wire using the ground screw provided.
With the 4-Flat extension plugged into the RV harness on one end and the motorhome on the other, test that the functions work on the Chevrolet Cobalt. These functions will only work on the brake/tail combination lamp.
The 58931 is designed for RV use. The manual notes that the harness includes a connection point labeled 'FOR TRAILER TOW USE ONLY: TAILLIGHT REQUIRED.' If you want to tow a trailer, you can plug in the 4-Flat Harness part number 58918 into the connection point and you will be ready to tow.
When not in use, store the 4-Flat extension in the vehicle's glove box.
Yes. You must remove the taillights to access and unplug the factory taillight connectors. Open the trunk, remove two bolts using a 7mm socket, remove the wing nuts holding the felt liner in place on both sides, pull the trunk felt liner away, and use a 10mm socket to remove the nuts holding the taillights in place. After installation, reinstall the taillights.
Gently pull the taillights away from the vehicle and unplug the factory connectors from the taillight connectors. Set them aside.
