There is nothing like the luxury and power that go along with heavy-duty towing. 5th wheel RVs offer a deluxe, home-away-from-home experience unlike any other, while gooseneck trailers possess a strength that far surpasses most other trailer options. As with any trailer, however, 5th wheels and goosenecks must be equipped with the proper lighting and electrical systems, and tend to require even more complex connectors than a standard receiver-type trailer setup. Make things simple with a CURT 5th wheel / gooseneck extension harness. These wiring harnesses are designed to put an extra connector socket in the bed of your pickup truck while still retaining power to the rear connector socket mounted on your bumper. This is done by plugging into the back of the existing original equipment (OEM) harness and routing through the body of the truck to a hole in the truck bed, providing a connector that is ready to accommodate your 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer. This CURT extension harness is designed to work with 7-way RV blade connectors and comes in a length of 7'. It is compatible with certain years of the Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, 3500 and Dakota (see application to verify fitment). When you need a towing electrical solution that allows you to switch back and forth between your receiver hitch and specialized trailer hitch, CURT gets you plugged in.

The CURT 7' Custom Wiring Extension Harness (Adds 7-Way RV Blade to Truck Bed) Trailer Connector Kit (Part #BKDK56071) Typical installation time is 30-60 minutes. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, Curt part 56071 is designed for Dodge Ram and Dodge Dakota vehicles. However, your vehicle must have a factory OEM 7-way trailer connector mounted to the hitch or bumper at the rear. If your vehicle does not have this factory connector, this extension harness will not be compatible.
The Curt 56071 is a trailer light wiring extension harness that connects between your vehicle's factory 7-way trailer connector and a new 7-way socket mounted on the sidewall of your vehicle. This allows you to position the trailer connector in a more convenient location, typically on the driver's side between the rear post and wheel well area.
You will need: a hole saw (2 1/8" diameter), a file to smooth edges, a drill with a 7/64" bit for mounting screw holes, and either a test light or a properly equipped trailer to verify harness operation after installation. The extension harness comes with self-tapping screws and cable ties.
Yes. You must locate and separate the factory 7-way connector from the vehicle wiring harness by carefully sliding the red lock clip and gently pulling the connector apart while holding down on the connector locking latch. The extension harness connectors are then inserted between the vehicle harness and the factory connector, and the locking clip is returned to its original position.
Yes. You must drill a 2 1/8" hole in the sidewall at your chosen mounting location (typically driver's side between the rear post and wheel well). You will also drill four 7/64" holes for the connector mounting screws. Before drilling, verify that no miscellaneous items are hidden behind or under the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury.
1. Insert the longer of the paired connectors into the vehicle's wiring harness connector, pressing firmly until the locking tabs engage. 2. Insert the shorter of the paired connectors into the rear of the factory 7-way socket, pressing firmly to engage the locking tab. 3. Return the red locking clip to its original position. This sandwiches the extension harness between the factory components.
Route the extension harness connector up from under the body through the 2 1/8" hole drilled in the sidewall. Insert the harness connector into the rear of the provided 7-way socket, pressing together firmly to engage the locking tab. Before drilling, ensure the harness will not pinch or bind when the vehicle turns.
Position the 7-way connector into the sidewall opening. Using the connector as a template, drill four 7/64" mounting screw holes. Secure the connector to the vehicle using the self-tapping screws provided with the kit.
Secure the extension harness cable to the vehicle using the cable ties provided in the kit. This prevents the cable from moving, pinching, or binding, especially when the vehicle turns.
After drilling the 2 1/8" hole in the sidewall, use a file to smooth the edges. This prevents abrasion of the harness or connector as it passes through the hole.
Confirm harness operation with a test light or by using a properly equipped trailer. This verifies that all connections are secure and that the wiring is functioning correctly before towing.
The typical mounting location is on the driver's side between the rear post and the wheel well area. However, you should determine a suitable mounting point for your specific vehicle and ensure the harness will not pinch or bind when turning.
