The CURT brake control harness (part numbers 51422 and 51423) is designed for Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia, and Saturn Outlook models. Confirm your vehicle is one of these models before purchasing. The manual does not specify which part number applies to which vehicle, so contact CURT at 1.877.287.8634 to confirm the correct part number for your specific vehicle.
The CURT brake control harness connects your vehicle's factory brake control connector to an aftermarket brake control unit. It allows the brake control unit to receive brake signal information from your vehicle's braking system.
The 6-pin vehicle brake control harness connector is located under the dash, to the left of the steering column, near the emergency brake pedal. It will be taped to another harness. The manual indicates two possible locations: BH1 (under dash, left of steering column, near emergency brake pedal) or BH3 (under dash, in junction box left of steering column). Consult your vehicle's service manual or contact CURT to determine which location applies to your specific vehicle.
Yes. You must carefully remove the vehicle trim panel underneath the dash to access the 6-pin brake control harness connector. When removing the trim panel, be careful not to pull on any courtesy lamp wires that are attached to it.
1. Locate the 6-pin vehicle brake control harness connector under the dash, left of the steering column, near the emergency brake pedal. 2. Insert the connector on the CURT brake control harness into the vehicle connector. 3. Ensure the connector is fully inserted with locking tabs in place. 4. Insert the brake control harness's black connector into the brake control unit's quick plug connector. 5. Secure the harness with the provided cable ties, avoiding any pinch points.
The manual confirms that cable ties are provided with the harness to secure it in place. Use these ties to secure the harness while avoiding any pinch points. The manual does not specify the quantity, length, or material of the cable ties.
The connector is fully inserted when the locking tabs are in place. Push the CURT brake control harness connector into the vehicle connector until you feel it seat and the locking tabs engage.
If your vehicle does not supply power to the brake control harness, you must install the universal brake control wiring kit (part number 51500). Follow the installation instructions provided with that kit to route all wires as directed. This kit will provide the necessary power connection for the brake control harness to function.
After installation, test the brake control harness for proper function by following the test procedures in the brake control unit instruction manual. Mount the brake control unit as directed in its manual and perform all test procedures as instructed. The harness itself does not have a separate test procedure; testing is performed through the brake control unit.
When removing the vehicle trim panel underneath the dash, carefully avoid pulling on any courtesy lamp wires that are attached to the panel. Pulling on these wires can damage them. Take your time and gently separate the trim panel from the dash.
Pinch points can damage the harness wires or connectors, causing electrical faults or loss of brake control function. When securing the harness with the provided cable ties, route it carefully and ensure the ties do not pinch or crush any part of the harness.
The harness fits Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia, and Saturn Outlook. Contact CURT at 1.877.287.8634 to confirm which part number applies to your vehicle.
