Yes, CURT part 51436 is designed for 2021 Ford Bronco. The installation includes a vehicle-specific step to remove the dust cover in the driver-side compartment under the dash on the side of the center council and install the brake controller jumper harness.
The manual indicates that for vehicles without a brake control, there will be a dust cover in the location where the brake control wire housing is normally found. However, the manual does not explicitly state whether the product can be installed on vehicles without factory brake controls. Contact CURT or consult a fitment database for compatibility with non-factory-equipped vehicles.
Battery disconnection is required for 2021-current Ford F-150 models only. Step 1A instructs to locate the vehicle battery in the engine compartment on the driver side and disconnect the negative battery terminal, fastening this wire down and away from the battery during installation. For other vehicles, follow the steps applicable to your model.
The required tools are: Phillips screwdriver, flathead screwdriver, panel trim removal tool, and cutting tool. Proper tools will improve the quality of installation and reduce installation time.
On 2021-current Ford F-150 models, the brake control wire housing (BH8) is located on the driver-side kick panel. For other vehicles, the harness connector is typically located under the dash above the brake pedal, taped to another harness. If not found under the dash, it may be in a different location; skip to step 6 in that case.
Remove tape and protective cover from the connector, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Insert the connector on the CURT brake control harness into the vehicle connector. Make sure the connector is fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Then route the brake control harness along the back of the dash and out the bottom to the brake control unit, inserting the black connector into the brake control's quick plug connector.
Secure the brake control harness with the provided cable ties, avoiding any pinch points. This prevents damage and ensures proper routing along the back of the dash and out the bottom to the brake control unit.
After connecting the harness, complete the installation using the brake control instructions. Mount the unit as directed and perform test procedures as instructed in the brake control user manual. Once installed, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer.
For vehicles with a shifter lever in the center console, follow steps 6 and 7: depress the brake and shift into first gear, then remove the black plastic floor trim panels on each side of the console. Remove the center console finish plate using a pry tool, gently prying the top out on both sides. Remove the trim panel surrounding the shifter lever. Open the floor console storage compartment cover and remove the three Torx-head screws holding it in place, then remove the cover.
For vehicles with a center console, follow steps 8 through 12. Remove the two bolts securing the floor console trim and pull up on the center console trim, taking care not to damage the alignment tabs. Locate the skinny panel with the vent and 4x4 selector to the left of the radio and gently pull it out. For flow-through consoles, skip to step 10. At the bottom of the skinny panel, pull it out and pivot on the pivot point to allow room. Remove the two 7mm bolts securing the pocket and remove it to locate the vehicle brake control harness connector. Separate the grey connector from the back of the pocket, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Then complete steps 3, 4, and 5.
Do not exceed the product rating or tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Consult the product specifications and your vehicle's owner manual for exact capacity limits.
Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. This helps maintain proper function and safety of the brake control system.
