However you define adventure -- whether it's climbing onto the back of a mountain bike, hunting from the top of a tree stand or camping with the family a long way from nowhere -- CURT class 1 hitches provide a light-duty towing receiver to help you Bring It. Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Hyundai Sonata (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.

Required tools are: ratchet, 3/4" socket, 6" socket extension, 10mm socket, 12mm socket, torque wrench, four 1/2" fishwire tools, and flathead screwdriver. A tools reference guide is available at curtmfg.com/trailer-hitch-installation.
Yes. Installation requires removal of the driver-side trim panel, exhaust hangers on the passenger side, and the passenger-side heat shield. These parts and their hardware are returned to the owner after installation.
The kit includes four square-hole spacers (1/4" × 1" × 3"), four carriage bolts (1/2"-13 × 1-1/2", grade 8), four hex nuts (1/2"-13), and four conical-toothed washers (1/2"). Four fishwire tools are also provided.
The fishwire technique is used to guide the carriage bolts and square-hole spacers through the vehicle frame rails without losing them inside the frame. The coiled end of the fishwire is inserted through the mounting hole, passed through the spacer, and threaded into the bolt coil. The wire is kinked to keep the spacer separate from the bolt, then pulled to draw the hardware through the frame and out the mounting hole.
Using a 10mm socket, remove two flange nuts securing the trim panel. Use a flathead screwdriver to remove three pop rivets. Remove the trim panel and return it to the owner with the hardware.
On the passenger side, remove the two 12mm flange nuts using a 12mm socket to allow the exhaust to be lowered. Be sure to support the exhaust before removing the flange nuts. The manual includes a diagram showing how to use a 5/8" open end wrench and pry bar to remove rubber isolators if exhaust hanger removal pliers are not available.
On the passenger side, using a 10mm socket, remove three 10mm flange nuts from the heat shield. Carefully pull on the heat shield to remove it and return it and the hardware to the owner.
On the driver side, using the provided fishwire, insert the square-hole spacers and carriage bolts into the frame through the access hole in the frame rail. Be sure to leave the fishwire attached to the hardware. Repeat on the passenger side of the vehicle.
Raise the trailer hitch into position so the holes on the hitch are aligned with holes on the frame rails on both sides of the vehicle. Remove the fishwire from the carriage bolts. Install conical-toothed washers and hex nuts onto the carriage bolts. The tooth side of the washer should face toward the trailer hitch. Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs using a torque wrench.
Raise the exhaust back into position. Be sure to reinstall the flange nuts and rubber isolators that were removed in Step 2.
All 1/2" hardware (carriage bolts, hex nuts, and conical-toothed washers) must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs using a torque wrench.
The tooth side of the conical-toothed washer should face toward the trailer hitch.
Safety glasses should be worn at all times while installing this product. Support the exhaust before removing the flange nuts to prevent damage or injury. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Periodic inspection of the trailer hitch should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure.
The manual does not specify vehicle make, model, or year compatibility. Contact CURT product support at 877.287.8634 or visit curtmfg.com to confirm fitment for your vehicle.
