Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Kia K5 (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.

After the hitch is installed, the canister is reinstalled using the supplied M8 hex bolts, flat washers, lock washers, and round hole spacers, with a spacer placed between the frame rail and canister.
The exhaust system must be lowered during installation. Two nuts on the rear-most exhaust bracket and two rubber exhaust hangers are removed to allow the exhaust to be lowered. The exhaust must be supported before removing the hangers. After the hitch is installed, the exhaust is raised back into position and the rubber hangers are reinstalled.
Required tools include: ratchet, sockets (10mm, 12mm, 17mm), socket extension (6"), torque wrench, rotary cutting tool or reciprocating saw, die grinder, flathead screwdriver, aviation shears, exhaust removal pliers, tape measure, marker, and tape. A 5/8" open-end wrench can substitute for exhaust removal pliers if needed.
The kit includes: 4 carriage bolts (7/16"), 4 serrated flange nuts (7/16"), 4 square hole spacers (0.250" × 0.88" × 2.25"), 4 fishwires (7/16"), 2 hex bolts (M8), 2 flat washers (5/16"), 2 lock washers (5/16"), and 2 round hole spacers (0.500" × 1.25" × 2.50").

The fishwire is used to guide the 7/16" carriage bolts and square hole spacers through the frame rails via the access holes. The coiled end of the fishwire is inserted through the hitch mounting hole and out the access hole, passed through the spacer, and threaded into the bolt coil. The wire is kinked to keep the spacer separate from the bolt. The fishwire then guides the hardware through the frame and prevents loss of bolts or spacers inside the frame rail.
The fishwire is left attached to the hardware after Step 6. It is removed in Step 7 after the hitch is raised into position and the fishwire is fed through the slots. The hitch is then secured using the serrated flange nuts.
Remove components in this order: (1) underbody panel (four push fasteners and two nuts); (2) charcoal canister if equipped (two bolts); (3) exhaust bracket nuts and rubber hangers (support exhaust first); (4) heat shield (three nuts); (5) rubber plugs and adhesive covers from mounting and access holes.
