The manual notes that some spare tires may need to be lowered or repositioned slightly for hitch installation. For step bumper models with a cradle storage system, the spare tire carrier must be cut along a marked line 1/8" inboard of the frame's outboard edge, then the spare tire is raised back to position after installation.
No. The manual explicitly states "NO DRILLING REQUIRED."
Yes. For Sportside bed models, you must remove the bumper, leaving brackets attached to the frame, and disconnect bumper wiring before removal. For 1998-present models, also remove the plastic step thread from the top of the bumper. The bumper is then reinstalled after the hitch is positioned.
All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 lb-ft.
The manual specifies gross load capacity when used as a weight-carrying hitch and when used as a weight-distribution hitch, but the specific capacity values are blank in the provided manual. Contact Curt Manufacturing or your retailer for the exact capacity ratings. Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
The kit includes: 6× 1/2-13 UNC Grade 8 hex head cap screws, 2" length (part 10-10286); 2× 1/2-13 UNC Grade 8 hex head cap screws, 1-3/4" length (part 10-10370); 2× 1/2-13 UNC Grade 8 serrated flange nuts (part 20-00062); 6× 1/2-13 UNC Grade 8 hex nuts (part 20-00171); 10× 1/2" flat washers (part 30-00133); and 6× 1/2" lock washers (part 30-00153).

For 1998-present models, the bumper is attached to each bumper bracket by 4 vertical bolts.
Pre-1994 models require 2× 1/2" washers at each bolt location as spacers between the bumper brackets and bumper when reinstalling the bumper. 1994-present models reinstall the bumper without spacer washers. Both use original bumper bolts, and slots in the bumper bracket allow for adjustment.
Only if your vehicle uses a cradle storage system for the spare tire. Steps 3 and 4 are required for early model vehicles with this system: mark the spare tire carrier 1/8" inboard of the outboard edge of the frame, then lower the spare tire and cut off the carrier along the marked line. After hitch installation, raise the spare tire back to position and secure it.
3× 1/2" bolts per side are used to loosely reinstall the bumper brackets. The receiver brackets are sandwiched between the bumper brackets and frame.
Fasteners should be installed loosely during the initial positioning of the receiver and bumper brackets (step 5). All 1/2" fasteners are tightened to 110 lb-ft only after the bumper is reinstalled and the spare tire is raised back to position (step 8).
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify a retorque interval.
