This particular kit fits certain years of the Dodge Dakota and Mitsubishi Raider (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It is also compatible with a weight distribution hitch for level towing and a rating of 5,500 lbs. WD and 550 lbs. WDTW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. Yes, Curt part number 13229 (RRH13229) is designed for Dodge Dakota and Mitsubishi Raider vehicles. However, the manual does not specify model years or body styles, so contact Curt technical support at 1-877-287-8634 to confirm your specific vehicle is compatible.
The hitch weight specification is not provided in the manual. Contact Curt technical support at 1-877-287-8634 for this information.
The manual lists gross load capacity for both weight-carrying and weight-distribution modes, but the specific values are blank in this document. You must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Contact Curt at 1-877-287-8634 or consult your vehicle's owner manual for the correct capacity limits.
No, drilling is not required. The hitch uses existing holes in the bumper and bumper support. You only need to remove the existing hole plug from the center of the bumper before installation.
You will need: a ratchet, torque wrench, 3/4" socket, 3/4" wrench, and 1/2" hex bit socket. These tools are essential for properly securing and torquing all fasteners to specification.
The hitch includes: one 3/4-10 UNC 2-3/4" flat head socket cap screw (part 10-10504), two 1/2-13 UNC 1-1/4" hex bolts (part 10-10470), two 1/2-13 UNC serrated flange nuts (part 20-00062), and two 1/2" flat washers (part 30-00133).
1. Remove the existing hole plug from the center of the bumper. 2. Slide the hitch chain plate behind the vehicle chain plate and loosely secure with the 3/4-10 X 1-3/4" flat head socket cap screw through the bumper, bumper support, and into the threaded hitch spacer. 3. Install the 1/2-13 X 1-1/4" hex bolts and 1/2" washers through the hitch slots and vehicle safety chain plate, then loosely secure with 1/2" flange nuts. 4. Torque all 3/4" hardware to 380 ft-lbs. 5. Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs.
All 3/4" hardware must be torqued to 380 ft-lbs. This applies to the 3/4-10 UNC flat head socket cap screw that secures the hitch to the bumper and bumper support.
All 1/2" hardware must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs. This applies to the 1/2-13 UNC hex bolts and serrated flange nuts that secure the hitch to the vehicle safety chain plate.
No. During steps 2 and 3, all fasteners must be loosely secured only. Final torquing is performed in steps 4 and 5 after the hitch is positioned. This allows proper alignment before final tightening.
You should periodically check the hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval, so establish a regular maintenance schedule, such as before each towing trip or monthly if the hitch is in regular use.
Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The hitch is rated for specific weight-carrying and weight-distribution capacities, but you must always follow the lower of either the hitch rating or your vehicle's manufacturer limit. Consult your vehicle's owner manual for the correct capacity.
