This particular kit fits certain years of the GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 8,000 lbs. GTW and 800 lbs. TW. It is also compatible with a weight distribution hitch for level towing and a rating of 10,000 lbs. WD and 1,000 lbs. WDTW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. Yes. Step 1 requires you to lower the spare tire using the vehicle service tools located in the cab of the truck. You must also loosen the spare tire support bracket by removing 2 bolts with a 13mm socket by the spare winch, and transfer 2 clip nuts from the factory hitch or crossmember onto the spare tire support bracket. The spare tire is reinstalled in the final step after all other installation is complete.
You must remove the factory crossmember or hitch by removing 4 bolts securing it to the frame rail with a 21mm socket. These bolts and any other hardware must be set aside for reuse during CURT installation. The factory components should be removed and returned to the owner. Before removal, check to ensure all wiring clears the component.
Yes. The CURT 13176 is designed to reuse factory mounting hardware. You must set aside the bolts removed from the factory crossmember or hitch (4 bolts from the frame rail and 2 bolts from the factory hitch or crossmember) and use them to attach the CURT hitch. The manual specifies 4 places each side for reuse of factory mounting hardware.
After attaching the bottom mounting bolts (2 places each side) and loosely securing them, adjust the bumper position to align with the side mounting holes before securing the remaining 4 bolts with a 21mm socket. The bumper shares the same mounting points as the factory crossmember and should be supported from underneath during removal of the factory component.
All M14 bolts must be torqued to 100 ft-lbs.
Clean the weldnuts as needed with lubricant and a wire pipe brush after removing the factory crossmember or hitch. The existing weldnuts in the vehicle frame are used to mount the CURT hitch, which mounts in the space between the frame and the bumper mounting plates.
