No, drilling is not required. The hitch uses existing frame rail mounting holes that are accessed by removing rubber plugs.
Two people may be required to ease installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance.
Professional installation takes approximately 40 minutes. Novice (DIY) installation takes approximately 60 minutes.
Remove the rearwardmost rubber plugs in the frame rails and any foil covering the mounting holes. Return the rubber plugs to the vehicle owner. Then fishwire the 9/16" x 2 1/2" carriage bolt and CM-SP70 spacer on the side with the recovery loop, and the 9/16" x 2" carriage bolt and CM-SP70 spacer into the holes that had the rubber plugs.
Raise the hitch on the driver side with the forwardmost tab over the leaf spring and angle the hitch to get the forwardmost tab on the passenger side over the leaf spring. Once in position, lift the driver side bracket up to the frame rail and slide the hitch over the rear bumper stud and the inner frame stud. Then push the hitch toward the driver side and raise the passenger side bracket up to the frame.
The 13207-SP spacer (.625 x 2.00) is slid between the hitch and the frame on the passenger side with the bolt passing through it. It is loosely secured with a 9/16" hex flange nut during assembly.
The two 1/2" handle nuts are slid into the grooved section of the frame over the forwardmost tabs and secured with 1/2" x 1 1/2" hex bolts and conical tooth washers.
Torque all 9/16" fasteners to 150 lb-ft and all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This should be done regularly to maintain safe operation.
Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. While the 13207 is rated for 6,000 lbs (weight carrying) or 7,500 lbs (weight distribution) trailer weight, your RAM ProMaster's manufacturer specifications may be lower and must be followed.
