Whatever your task at hand -- whether it's launching that boat before daybreak, setting up your camper before the rush or getting a final load to the dump before close -- CURT class 3 trailer hitches offer the strength needed for serious towing. They make it easy to hitch up and Bring It, offering a vehicle-specific fit and the weight capacity to handle a variety of trailers. Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the BMW X3 and X4 (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 3,500 lbs. GTW and 350 lbs. TW. It is also compatible with a weight distribution hitch for level towing and a rating of 4,000 lbs. WD and 400 lbs. WDTW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.

No, drilling is not required. The hitch uses existing M12 threaded studs on the vehicle for attachment.
Required tools are: plastic rivet gun, 8mm, 10mm, and 18mm sockets, ratchet, flat head screwdriver, torque wrench, tape measure, rotary cutting tool, small punch, and safety glasses.
The kit includes 16 M6 black rivets (part number 10-10401) for reinstalling wheel well trim. The M12 nuts that secure the hitch to the vehicle are existing factory hardware that are removed during bumper removal and reused for hitch installation.
Two people may be required to ease installation. The manual notes that using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce the time required.
The installation difficulty level is rated as Challenging. The manual notes that if you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, you should contact an authorized Curt installer for additional assistance.
Yes, trimming is required. You must trim the underbody panel according to the trim diagram (approximately 5 1/8 inches by 3 1/2 inches) and trim an approximate 3/8 inch wide by 7/8 inch deep slot into each inner plastic body to allow for hitch side plate clearance.
All M12 hardware must be torqued to 86 ft-lbs.
Yes, bumper removal is required. The installation process requires removal of the underbody panel, bumper cover fasteners, wheel well trim, tail lights, reflectors, inner plastic bodies, and the bumper beam assembly before the hitch can be installed.
Most models require removal of 11 fasteners from the underbody panel. However, some models may require removal of only 9 fasteners.
Seven rivets must be removed from the wheel well trim from above each rear tire. To remove them, push the small center rod through the rivet with a small punch or equivalent tool, pry the rivets from the trim, and pop the trim off. Replacement rivets are included in the kit.
Yes, both tail lights must be removed. Pop off the plastic covers inside each tail light, remove the 2 nuts from each tail light, unplug the lights, and remove them. After hitch installation, they are reinstalled in reverse order.
The M12 nuts removed from the bumper beam assembly threaded studs in Step 11 are reused to secure the hitch to the vehicle in Step 12.
Remove the underbody panel, then remove fasteners from the bumper cover bottom and wheel wells, remove wheel well trim rivets, remove additional bumper cover fasteners, pop off tail light covers, remove and unplug tail lights, remove fasteners under tail lights, pop off reflectors and remove fasteners under them, then carefully remove the bumper cover by popping the sides off first and pulling straight back.
Reinstall the bumper cover and tail lights by reassembling all components removed in Steps 2-10 in reverse order. A plastic rivet gun is required to fasten the supplied M6 rivets when reinstalling the wheel well trim.
Raise the underbody panel into position and mark the center using the hitch as a guide. Trim the underbody panel according to the trim diagram on the manual, which shows dimensions of 5 1/8 inches by 3 1/2 inches. Reinstall the underbody panel and discard the extra fastener.
You must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The hitch itself has a weight carrying capacity of 3,500 lbs. trailer weight and 350 lbs. tongue weight, or 4,000 lbs. trailer weight and 400 lbs. tongue weight when used as a weight distribution hitch, but your vehicle's limits take precedence.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. Read all instructions thoroughly before beginning installation.
