This particular kit fits certain years of the Chrysler Pacifica (except hybrid; see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 4,000 lbs. GTW and 400 lbs. TW. It is also compatible with a weight distribution hitch for level towing and a rating of 5,000 lbs. WD and 500 lbs. WDTW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. The CURT Class 3 Trailer Hitch, 2" Receiver, Select Chrysler Pacifica (Except Hybrid) Trailer Hitch (Part #BKDK13462) Drilling is not required for installation. Typical installation time is 60-90 minutes. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The CURT 13462 has a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 4,000 lbs and a tongue weight (TW) capacity of 400 lbs. For weight distribution applications, the weight distribution (WD) capacity is 5,000 lbs with a WD tongue weight (WDTW) of 500 lbs.
Yes. If installing the CURT 13462 on a Hybrid model, the 13466-SK service kit is required.
Required tools are: ratchet, 8mm socket, 10mm socket, 19mm socket, 6" socket extension, flathead screwdriver, tape measure, tin snips, exhaust removal tool, torque wrench, safety glasses, and gloves. The kit includes 6 fishwires (1/2"). For a complete tools reference guide, visit curtmfg.com/trailer-hitch-installation.
The fishwire technique is used to guide carriage bolts and spacers through the vehicle frame rails to the mounting holes. The coiled end of the fishwire is inserted through the hitch mounting hole and out the access hole, then threaded through the spacer and bolt. The fishwire is then pulled to guide the bolt and spacer through the frame and out the mounting hole, preventing loss of hardware inside the frame rail.
The reverse pull fishwire method is an alternative technique used when installing bolts through access holes. A fishwire is attached to the carriage bolt, and a spacer is slid onto the fishwire. The bolt is pushed through the hole followed by the spacer, then pulled back into position protruding from the frame. This method is used for the 3" square-hole spacer installation in Step 5.
Use a 5/8" open end wrench or exhaust hanger removal pliers. Slide the wrench up to the rubber isolator, cradling the hanger rod. Place the flat edge of a pry bar between the wrench and the hanger stop or hanger rod, then rotate the pry bar toward the wrench to remove the rubber isolator. Using a lubricant or soapy water on the hanger rod and rubber isolator helps removal.
Remove nine M8 fasteners, two M10 fasteners, seven M10 nuts, and two plastic push-on fasteners. The plastic push-on fasteners are removed by pulling down on the panel while unscrewing them with a flathead screwdriver. Set the panel aside for reinstallation in Step 9.
Two rearmost exhaust hanger rods must be removed from the rubber isolator. Use a stand to support the exhaust and prevent any damage. The exhaust will be reinstalled in Step 8.
Two M10 nuts secure the heat shield. One nut is located above the exhaust. Both are removed in Step 3 and one is reinstalled in Step 7 after the heat shield is trimmed.
Six carriage bolts total are installed: two 1/2"-13 x 1-3/4" grade 8 carriage bolts with 2" square-hole spacers through the two rearward holes on each side (four bolts total), and one carriage bolt with a 3" square-hole spacer through the access hole on each side (two bolts total). All six bolts are left with fishwires attached until Step 6.
In Step 6, slide the passenger side of the hitch over the muffler first. Then feed the previously installed fishwires through the three holes in the hitch on both sides of the vehicle until all six carriage bolts are through the hitch holes. Remove the six fishwires and loosely install the six serrated-flange nuts.
All 1/2" fasteners (carriage bolts and serrated-flange nuts) must be torqued to 110 lb-ft.
The heat shield must be trimmed to 11" width and 7" height as shown in the diagram on page 5.
The underbody panel must be trimmed to 32" length as shown in the diagram on page 5.
After trimming the underbody panel in Step 8, reinstall seven of the nine M8 fasteners, two M10 fasteners, seven M10 nuts, and two plastic push-on fasteners that were removed in Step 1. Return any unused fasteners to the vehicle owner.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Periodic inspection of the trailer hitch should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure.
