Whatever your task at hand -- whether it's launching that boat before daybreak, setting up your camper before the rush or getting a final load to the dump before close -- CURT class 3 trailer hitches offer the strength needed for serious towing. They make it easy to hitch up and Bring It, offering a vehicle-specific fit and the weight capacity to handle a variety of trailers. Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 2,500 lbs. GTW and 250 lbs. TW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.

Required tools: ratchet, Phillips screwdriver, flathead screwdriver, socket set (10mm, 19mm, 3/4"), tape measure, torque wrench, shears, and 4 fishwire tools (included). A tools reference guide is available at curtmfg.com/trailer-hitch-installation.
The kit includes: 1 trailer hitch, 2 mounting brackets (driver and passenger side), 6 hex bolts M12 x 1.25" x 35, 6 carriage bolts 1/2"-13 x 1.25", 6 conical-toothed washers 1/2", 6 serrated-flange nuts 1/2"-13, and 4 fishwire tools.
Yes. You must remove the rearmost lower bumper panel (10 clips) and set it aside for reinstallation. The manual notes that removing the large underbody panel may ease installation. Two electrical cables routed along the driver-side frame rail must be carefully dislodged.
The manual states that removing the large underbody panel "may ease installation" but does not explicitly require it. However, the installation does require removal and trimming of underbody material. Consult the trim diagram on page 4 for the specific areas to trim.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected. Contact CURT product support at 877-287-8634 for guidance specific to your vehicle.
1. Remove the rearmost lower bumper panel (10 clips). 2. Dislodge the two electrical cables on the driver-side frame rail. 3. Loosely install the driver-side mounting bracket using M12 hex bolts and conical-toothed washers; repeat on passenger side. 4. Raise the hitch into position between the side plates and secure with 1/2" carriage bolts installed from center outward and serrated-flange nuts. 5. Torque all M12 hardware to 86 ft-lbs and all 1/2" hardware to 90 ft-lbs. 6. Trim and reinstall the underbody panel.
The fishwire tool (4 included) is used to guide bolts through the vehicle frame rail. Insert the coiled end of the fishwire through the hitch mounting hole in the frame rail and out the access hole. Pass the coiled end through the spacer and thread the bolt into the coil. Kink the wire to keep the spacer separate from the bolt. Pull the fishwire, spacer and bolt through the frame and out the mounting hole. This prevents loss of bolts or spacers inside the frame rail.
No. In Step 3, the driver-side and passenger-side mounting brackets are installed "loosely" using M12 hex bolts and conical-toothed washers. They are fully tightened only in Step 5 after the hitch is raised into position and secured with carriage bolts.
The 1/2" carriage bolts should be installed from the center of the vehicle outward. Use fishwires as needed to install the bolts.
The manual does not mention drilling. The installation uses existing weldnuts in the vehicle frame rail. However, the installation does require trimming of the underbody panel using the trim diagram provided on page 4.
The underbody panel must be trimmed using the trim diagram on page 4 as reference. The diagram shows trim lines at 1-1/2" from the hitch on two sides and 3-3/4" on another section. The trimmed panel is then reinstalled.
The underbody panel trimming is permanent. The bumper panel removal is not permanent—it is removed and then reinstalled after the hitch is mounted and the underbody is trimmed.
Torque all M12 hex bolts to 86 ft-lbs. Torque all 1/2" carriage bolts and serrated-flange nuts to 90 ft-lbs.
The conical-toothed washer should be oriented with the conical (pointed) side facing the vehicle frame. The diagram on page 2 shows the washer positioned between the hex bolt and the hitch side plate, with the conical teeth pointing toward the frame.
The M12 hex bolts are M12 x 1.25" x 35 (6 qty). They are torqued to 86 ft-lbs and used with conical-toothed washers to secure the mounting brackets to the vehicle frame.
The carriage bolts are 1/2"-13 x 1.25" (6 qty). They are installed from the center of the vehicle outward to secure the hitch between the mounting brackets and are torqued to 90 ft-lbs.
The conical-toothed washers (1/2", 6 qty) are used with the M12 hex bolts to secure the mounting brackets to the vehicle frame. The conical teeth grip the frame surface to prevent loosening and ensure a secure connection.
To remove debris from weldnuts in the frame, spray lubricant or compressed air into the hole. For heavy debris, use a wire brush. Take care not to damage the threads.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce time required.
Periodic inspection of the trailer hitch should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure. The manual does not specify the inspection interval or detailed checklist.
