Professional installation takes approximately 42 minutes. DIY (novice) installation takes approximately 45 minutes. The manual rates this as a challenging installation and recommends 2 people may be required to ease installation.
Required tools include: ratchet, torque wrench, safety glasses, T30 Torx bit, sockets (11mm, 13mm, 15mm, 21mm, 3/4"), 6" socket extension, masking tape, tape measure, aviation shears, die grinder, pliers, and marker. Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation.
The kit includes: 6× 1/2-13 UNC carriage bolts, 1-3/4" grade 8 (part 10-10272); 2× M8x1.25 hex cap screws, 45mm class 10.9 (part 10-10464); 6× 1/2-13 UNC serrated flange nuts grade 8 (part 20-00062); 6× 0.250 x 1.00 x 2.50" square hole spacers (part CM-SP10); 6× 1/2" fishwire (part 1_2 FISHWIRE); and 2× 3/8" S-con washers (part 30-00148).
You do not need to fully remove the bumper, but you must remove the 2 screws attaching the bumper fascia to the body mounts using a T30 Torx bit (step 1). You will also need to trim a 3 3/8" side-to-side by 2 5/8" lengthwise cutout from the lower bumper cover (step 5). The bumper fascia screws are reinstalled at the end (step 9).
You must remove the bolts on the 2 rearward-most exhaust hanger brackets using a 13mm socket (step 2). Support the exhaust before removing these fasteners to prevent damage. The manual notes that temporarily removing the exhaust will ease installation; if you choose to do this, loosen the nut at the bolted connection in the middle of the vehicle with a 15mm socket. The exhaust is reinstalled at the end (step 9).
Yes. Remove the 3 sheet metal nuts holding the heat shield in position using an 11mm socket (step 3). Remove the heat shield and trim the exhaust attachment tabs from it. Reinstall the heat shield center onto the vehicle after trimming.
No drilling is required. However, you must use a die grinder to enlarge the rearward-most holes in the bottom of the frame to allow the supplied carriage bolts and spacers to pass through (step 4). You must also trim a 3 3/8" side-to-side by 2 5/8" lengthwise cutout from the lower bumper cover using tin snips or aviation shears (step 5). These dimensions are reference only; verify hitch location on your vehicle before trimming.
The trim cutout is 3 3/8" side-to-side and 2 5/8" lengthwise. These dimensions are reference only; the manual instructs you to check hitch location on your vehicle prior to trimming to ensure proper fit.
Yes. Using pliers, bend the 2 small locator tabs flat on each exhaust bracket or remove them entirely (step 6).
Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft. Torque all M14 fasteners to 126 lb-ft. (Step 8). The manual does not provide a torque specification for the M8x1.25 fasteners (part 10-10464).
1. Remove bumper fascia screws (T30 Torx bit). 2. Remove exhaust hanger bracket bolts (13mm socket) and support exhaust. 3. Remove and trim heat shield (11mm socket). 4. Enlarge frame holes with die grinder and fishwire carriage bolts and spacers into position. 5. Mark and trim bumper cover cutout (3 3/8" × 2 5/8"). 6. Bend or remove exhaust bracket locator tabs (pliers). 7. Thread fishwires into hitch mounting holes, raise hitch into position, and install flange nuts. 8. Torque all fasteners. 9. Reinstall exhaust and bumper fascia screws. For tow hook equipped models, skip steps 3-4 and use the 6 existing 14mm hex bolts from the vehicle frame instead.
Thread fishwires into the hitch mounting holes and raise the hitch into mounting position with the main body on the rearward side of the bumper fascia body mounts. Pull downward on the rear bumper cover approximately 5" to accomplish getting the hitch in position. Remove the fishwires and install the 6 supplied 1/2" hex flange nuts (step 7).
