Whatever your task at hand -- whether it's launching that boat before daybreak, setting up your camper before the rush or getting a final load to the dump before close -- CURT class 3 trailer hitches offer the strength needed for serious towing. They make it easy to hitch up and Bring It, offering a vehicle-specific fit and the weight capacity to handle a variety of trailers. Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It is also compatible with a weight distribution hitch for level towing and a rating of 6,000 lbs. WD and 600 lbs. WDTW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.

Always compare the hitch rating with your vehicle’s towing capacity and the ratings of every component in your towing setup. The maximum towing capacity is determined by the lowest-rated component.

The CURT Class 3 Trailer Hitch, 2" Receiver, Select Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ Trailer Hitch (Part #BKDK13051) fits the following vehicles: 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Always verify your specific year, make, and model before ordering.
Yes, the CURT Class 3 Trailer Hitch, 2" Receiver, Select Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ Trailer Hitch (Part #BKDK13051) is designed to fit the 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The CURT Class 3 Trailer Hitch, 2" Receiver, Select Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ Trailer Hitch (Part #BKDK13051) Drilling is not required for installation. Typical installation time is 30-60 minutes. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the Curt 13051 receiver hitch is designed for 1999–2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee models. The part numbers 13051, 78139, and RRH13051 are all compatible with this vehicle generation.
The Curt 13051 has a gross load capacity of 5,000 lbs. trailer weight and 500 lbs. tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch, or 6,000 lbs. trailer weight and 600 lbs. tongue weight when used as a weight-distribution hitch. However, you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower.
The hitch weight is 38 lbs.
Yes. Step 1 of the installation instructions states: 'Remove tow hook if present.' This must be done before proceeding with hitch installation.
No. The manual explicitly states 'NO DRILLING REQUIRED.' The hitch uses existing M12 fastener holes in the vehicle frame.
The hitch includes 6 M12×1.75 hex cap head cap screws (HHCS), grade 10.9 (part number 10-10459) and 6 conical washers (part number 30-00149). Spacers (part number CM-SP25, 0.250 × 1.38 × 1.50 inch round hole) are also included but are only required on some vehicle models—not on vehicles equipped with skid shield supports.
Spacers are required on some 1999–2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee models but not on vehicles equipped with skid shield supports. If your vehicle has skid shield supports, you do not need spacers. If it does not, place the supplied spacers (part number CM-SP25) between the frame and hitch before installing the M12 hex bolts and conical washers.
The skid shield itself remains in place during installation. However, if your vehicle is equipped with skid shield support bolts, you must remove those support bolts to install the hitch. The four rearmost M12 fasteners from the vehicle frame are removed and then reinstalled as part of the hitch attachment.
The parts list includes a fuel filler hose listed as 'REPLACES EXISTING,' but the manual does not specify whether this replacement is required on all vehicles or only some models. Consult the vehicle-specific installation notes or contact Curt Manufacturing to confirm whether fuel filler hose replacement is necessary for your particular Jeep Grand Cherokee.
All M12 fasteners must be torqued to 79 lb.-ft. This applies whether spacers or support bars are used between the hitch and frame.
Step 2 instructs you to 'loosely reinstall' the four M12 fasteners after raising the hitch into position. All fasteners are then torqued to 79 lb.-ft. in Step 4, after spacers or support bars are in place. Do not fully tighten fasteners until Step 4.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify a retorque interval or maintenance schedule beyond this periodic inspection.
Alteration to, misuse of, or improper installation of the hitch voids the warranty. The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship at the time of retail purchase by the original purchaser. If the product is found to be defective, Curt Manufacturing may repair or replace it at their option.
Yes, the Curt 13051 is designed for 1999–2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. No drilling is required.
5,000 lbs. trailer / 500 lbs. tongue (weight-carrying) or 6,000 lbs. trailer / 600 lbs. tongue (weight-distribution). Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's towing capacity.
All M12 fasteners torque to 79 lb.-ft.
Spacers are required on some models but not on vehicles with skid shield supports. Check your vehicle configuration before installation.
No, no drilling is required. The hitch uses existing frame fastener holes.
Yes, a compatible bike rack, cargo carrier or other accessory with a 2" x 2" shank can generally be used. Make sure the accessory does not exceed the hitch’s tongue weight rating, the vehicle’s limits or the accessory manufacturer’s capacity. Account for the combined weight of the carrier and everything loaded onto it.
