Whatever your task at hand -- whether it's launching that boat before daybreak, setting up your camper before the rush or getting a final load to the dump before close -- CURT class 3 trailer hitches offer the strength needed for serious towing. They make it easy to hitch up and Bring It, offering a vehicle-specific fit and the weight capacity to handle a variety of trailers. Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Jeep Wrangler TJ (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 4,000 lbs. GTW and 400 lbs. TW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.

The manual lists a gross load capacity for weight-carrying use, but the specific capacity value is not printed in this version of the manual. Contact Curt Manufacturing technical support at 1-877-287-8634 for the exact towing and tongue weight specifications. Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
The kit includes: 2× 1/2-13 UNC grade 8 serrated flange nuts (20-00062); 2× 7/16-14 UNC 1-3/4" grade 8 hex head cap screws (10-10463); 2× M12×1.75 50mm class 10.9 hex head cap screws (10-10458); 2× 0.250×1.00×2.50" square hole spacers (CM-SP10); 2× 1/2" S-con washers (30-00149); 2× 1/2-13 UNC 1-3/4" grade 8 carriage bolts (10-10272); and 1× 1/2" fishwire (1_2 FISHWIRE).
Required tools are: ratchet, torque wrench, 9" extension, swivel socket, 18mm socket, 19mm socket, 5/8" socket, and 3/4" socket. A torque wrench is essential because fasteners must be torqued to specific values (70 lb-ft for 7/16" fasteners, 110 lb-ft for 1/2" fasteners, and 79 lb-ft for 12mm fasteners).
No. The manual explicitly states "NO DRILLING REQUIRED." The hitch uses existing holes in the vehicle frame and existing weldnuts for fastening.
The fishwire technique is used to route the 1/2" carriage bolts and spacers through access holes in the vehicle frame and out through existing holes in the bottom of the frame. The manual references a "Fishwire or Reverse Fishwire Technique" section, but detailed instructions for this technique are not included in the provided manual pages. Contact Curt technical support at 1-877-287-8634 for detailed guidance.
Yes. Step 1 of the installation requires you to remove the existing bolt from the rearmost hole in the vehicle frame. The manual notes that these bolts hold the bumper in place, so bumper removal or at least partial disassembly is necessary to access the frame fasteners.
Torque all 7/16" fasteners to 70 lb-ft. Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft. Torque all 12mm fasteners to 79 lb-ft. Use a torque wrench to ensure accuracy. The manual notes that bolt sizes vary by vehicle model, so verify which size applies to your specific Jeep Wrangler year.
Non-trailer loads applied to this hitch must be supported by Curt 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. Do not apply unsupported loads to the hitch.
Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The manual emphasizes this requirement in the parts list. Even if the hitch has a higher rating, your Jeep Wrangler's frame and drivetrain have limits set by the manufacturer. Consult your vehicle's owner manual for the exact towing capacity.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but regular inspection before towing is recommended. Retighten any loose fasteners to the specified torque values.
Yes, if your Jeep Wrangler is a 1997–2006 model year. This hitch is not compatible with other vehicle makes or model years outside this range.
No drilling is required. The hitch uses existing frame holes and weldnuts.
You need a ratchet, torque wrench, 9" extension, swivel socket, 18mm socket, 19mm socket, 5/8" socket, and 3/4" socket. A torque wrench is essential for proper fastener installation.
Torque 7/16" fasteners to 70 lb-ft, 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft, and 12mm fasteners to 79 lb-ft. Bolt sizes vary by vehicle model.
Non-trailer loads must be supported by Curt 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to do so voids the warranty.
Yes, a compatible bike rack, cargo carrier or other accessory with a 2" x 2" shank can generally be used. Make sure the accessory does not exceed the hitch’s tongue weight rating, the vehicle’s limits or the accessory manufacturer’s capacity. Account for the combined weight of the carrier and everything loaded onto it.
