Whatever your task at hand -- whether it's launching that boat before daybreak, setting up your camper before the rush or getting a final load to the dump before close -- CURT class 3 trailer hitches offer the strength needed for serious towing. They make it easy to hitch up and Bring It, offering a vehicle-specific fit and the weight capacity to handle a variety of trailers. Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Subaru Outback (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 3,500 lbs. GTW and 350 lbs. TW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.

Equip your vehicle for towing and hitch-mounted accessories with a dependable CURT 2" trailer hitch. Designed for a vehicle-specific fit, CURT receiver hitches provide a strong and secure connection point for towing trailers, carrying bikes, transporting cargo and using other compatible 2-inch hitch accessories.
Our selection of CURT 2-inch receiver hitches includes options for trucks, SUVs, crossovers, vans and passenger vehicles. Each hitch is engineered to match specific vehicle mounting points, helping provide a clean installation and dependable performance. Depending on the vehicle application, available options may include Class 3, Class 4 and heavy-duty receiver hitches with different gross trailer weight and tongue weight capacities.
A 2" x 2" receiver opening is one of the most common hitch sizes and works with a wide range of towing accessories, including ball mounts, bike racks, cargo carriers, hitch steps and tow hooks. When towing a trailer, you may also need a properly rated trailer ball, hitch pin, wiring harness, brake controller or weight distribution system.
CURT trailer hitches feature a durable black finish designed to help protect against rust, scratches and exposure to road conditions. Many models install using existing holes in the vehicle frame, although drilling, trimming or temporary removal of vehicle components may be required for certain applications.
Use our vehicle fitment tools to find the correct CURT 2" trailer hitch for your year, make and model. Always compare the hitch rating with your vehicle’s towing capacity and the ratings of every component in your towing setup. The maximum towing capacity is determined by the lowest-rated component.

Required tools: ratchet, torque wrench, sockets (10mm and 17mm), 8" socket extension, exhaust hanger removal pliers, aviation shears or hole saw, flathead screwdriver or panel trim removal tool, and safety glasses. A 5/8" open-end wrench can substitute for exhaust hanger removal pliers.
Installation is rated as moderate difficulty. The manual does not require professional installation, but proper tools and mechanical knowledge are necessary. Installation involves exhaust lowering, drilling, and precise torque specifications.
The manual does not mention battery disconnection. This hitch appears to be mechanical only with no electrical components.
Yes. You must cut a 1-1/2" diameter hole in the muffler heat shield(s), positioned 2-3/4" behind the front-most mounting hole. Use aviation shears or a hole saw. This modification is required to clear the mounting plate(s).
Cut a 1-1/2" diameter hole in the heat shield(s), positioned 2-3/4" behind the front-most mounting hole. Use aviation shears or a hole saw.
Yes. The installation requires lowering the exhaust. You must remove the two rearmost rubber exhaust isolators from the frame-mounted hangers and the exhaust hanger near the rear differential. Support the exhaust during installation to prevent damage. If the vehicle has dual exhaust, repeat on both sides. The exhaust is reinstalled after the hitch is mounted.
Use an exhaust hanger removal tool to remove the two rearmost rubber exhaust isolators from the frame-mounted hangers. If you do not have exhaust hanger removal pliers, use a 5/8" open-end wrench: slide it up to the rubber isolator cradling the hanger rod, place the flat edge of a pry bar between the wrench and the hanger stop or rod, then rotate the pry bar toward the wrench. Spraying lubricant or soapy water on the hanger rod and isolator eases removal.
Yes. Remove the four M6 x 1.0 muffler heat shield bolts using a 10mm socket and remove the heat shield. If the vehicle has dual exhaust, repeat on both sides. After removing the heat shield, cut a 1-1/2" diameter hole in it (or them), positioned 2-3/4" behind the front-most mounting hole. Reinstall the heat shield(s) after the hitch is mounted and the exhaust is raised back into position.
The fishwire tool guides the carriage bolts and spacers through the vehicle frame rail mounting holes and access holes. Insert the coiled end of the fishwire through the hitch mounting hole in the frame rail and out the access hole. Pass the coiled end through the spacer and thread the bolt into the coil. Kink the wire to keep the spacer separate from the bolt. Pull the fishwire, spacer, and bolt through the frame and out the mounting hole. This prevents loss of bolts or spacers inside the frame rail and guides the hitch during mounting.
The hitch uses four mounting locations. You will fishwire four 7/16" carriage bolts and four square-hole spacers into the frame rail through the forward access holes, one at each location.
Remove the three rubber plugs in each frame rail before fishwiring the carriage bolts and spacers into the forward access holes.
Loosely secure the hitch to the vehicle with the provided 7/16" serrated-flange nuts while using the fishwire as a guide and after centering the hitch on the vehicle. Do not fully tighten until after you have centered the hitch. Final torque is applied in Step 5.
Torque all 7/16" hardware to 70 ft-lbs using a 17mm socket and torque wrench.
Use a 17mm socket with a torque wrench to torque all 7/16" hardware to 70 ft-lbs.
The kit includes: four 7/16" carriage bolts, four square-hole spacers (7/16" x 0.88" x 2.25"), four 7/16" serrated-flange nuts, two 7/16" flat washers, and two 7/16" fishwire tools.
The two 7/16" flat washers are placed between the hitch and the frame on the rearmost mounting holes.
After raising the trailer hitch into position with the flat washers between the hitch and frame on the rearmost mounting holes, center the hitch on the vehicle before loosely securing it with the 7/16" serrated-flange nuts. The manual does not specify a measurement or alignment method for centering.
Periodic inspection of the trailer hitch should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure. The manual does not specify an inspection interval or detailed inspection procedure.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation. Support the exhaust during installation to prevent damage. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity when using the hitch.
The manual does not specify whether additional people are required. The installation involves raising and lowering the exhaust and positioning the hitch, which may benefit from a second person, but this is not explicitly stated.
The manual does not specify whether a lift, jack, or other lifting equipment is required. Contact CURT Product Support at 877-287-8634 for guidance on vehicle access and support requirements.
Yes, a compatible bike rack, cargo carrier or other accessory with a 2" x 2" shank can generally be used.
