Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Toyota Highlander (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.

The CURT Class 3 Trailer Hitch, 2" Receiver, Select Toyota Highlander Trailer Hitch (Part #BKDK13453) fits 2020-2026 Toyota Highlander models. The 2026 model year is the last year covered by this part number. For newer models, check for an updated version.
Yes, the CURT Class 3 Trailer Hitch, 2" Receiver, Select Toyota Highlander Trailer Hitch (Part #BKDK13453) is designed to fit the 2020-2026 Toyota Highlander.
The CURT Class 3 Trailer Hitch, 2" Receiver, Select Toyota Highlander Trailer Hitch (Part #BKDK13453) Drilling is required for installation. Typical installation time is 30-60 minutes. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The CURT 13453 hitch has a gross load capacity of 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 500 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower than these figures.
Yes, the CURT 13453 is designed for Toyota Highlander models from 2020 to present. Confirm your vehicle year matches this range before purchasing.
You will need: ratchet, torque wrench, 10mm socket, 12mm socket, 17mm socket, 19mm socket, 6" extension, screwdriver, safety glasses, and a rotary tool (optional). A torque wrench is essential because all 12mm hardware must be torqued to 86 ft-lbs.
No, drilling is not required. The hitch uses existing weldnuts in the frame and existing threaded plastic inserts. The installation involves part removal and trimming of the underbody panel only.
Two people may be required to ease installation. While one person may be able to complete the installation, having a second person will help, particularly when raising the hitch over the exhaust and aligning it with the frame weldnuts.
The hitch includes 6 M12x1.25 hex cap screws (part number 10-10275) and 6 1/2" conical toothed washers (part number 30-00149). These are used to secure the hitch to the frame weldnuts.
Yes, you must remove the underbody panel to access the frame rails and weldnuts. After installation, you will trim the underbody panel to fit around the hitch and reinstall it using the fasteners you removed.
The following factory parts are removed and returned to the owner: 2 rubber plugs (one from each frame rail), 3 threaded plastic inserts from the driver side frame rail, 2 threaded plastic inserts from the passenger side frame rail, the metal fascia tab, the existing tow loop, and the M12 bolt that secured the fascia tab.
Yes, trimming the underbody panel is a permanent modification. The manual instructs you to mark and trim the panel to fit around the installed hitch, then reattach it. The trim dimensions are approximate (3.00 in and 4.00 in based on the diagram), so you should confirm fit before cutting and use the ribs of the underbody panel as cutting guides.
All 12mm hardware (the M12x1.25 hex bolts) must be torqued to 86 ft-lbs. A torque wrench is required to achieve this specification.
You must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. While the CURT 13453 is rated for 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 500 lbs tongue weight, your Toyota Highlander's manufacturer specifications may be lower. Always follow the vehicle manufacturer's limits, not the hitch rating.
Yes, safety glasses should be worn at all times while installing this product. This is a required safety precaution.
After installation, periodically check that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This is an ongoing maintenance requirement, not a one-time check. Regular inspection helps ensure safe towing.
The manual instructs you to periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. While a specific interval is not provided, regular inspection before towing is recommended as a best practice.
The CURT 13453 is designed for Toyota Highlander 2020-present models only.
No drilling is required. Installation uses existing frame weldnuts and involves part removal and underbody panel trimming only.
All 12mm hardware must be torqued to 86 ft-lbs using a torque wrench.
The hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 500 lbs tongue weight, but you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Required tools: ratchet, torque wrench, 10mm/12mm/17mm/19mm sockets, 6" extension, screwdriver, safety glasses. A rotary tool is optional.
Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The hitch rating (5,000 lbs trailer, 500 lbs tongue) may exceed your vehicle's limits.
Yes, a compatible bike rack, cargo carrier or other accessory with a 2" x 2" shank can generally be used. Make sure the accessory does not exceed the hitch’s tongue weight rating, the vehicle’s limits or the accessory manufacturer’s capacity. Account for the combined weight of the carrier and everything loaded onto it.
