Whatever your task at hand -- whether it's launching that boat before daybreak, setting up your camper before the rush or getting a final load to the dump before close -- CURT class 3 trailer hitches offer the strength needed for serious towing. They make it easy to hitch up and Bring It, offering a vehicle-specific fit and the weight capacity to handle a variety of trailers. Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Volkswagen Taos (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.

Many models install using existing holes in the vehicle frame, although drilling, trimming or temporary removal of vehicle components may be required for certain applications.

Required tools include: ratchet, socket 3/4", 6" socket extension, tape measure, torque wrench, die grinder, reciprocating saw or rotary tool, Torx bits (T-10 and T-25), tape, utility knife, and fishwire (4 qty, 1/2" included with product). A tools reference guide is available at curtmfg.com/trailer-hitch-installation.
The kit includes: 4 carriage bolts (1/2-13" UNC, 1-1/4", grade 8), 4 serrated flange nuts (1/2"-13 UNC, grade 8), 4 square hole spacers (1/4" x 1" x 3"), and 4 qty of 1/2" fishwire.
Yes. You must remove the lower fascia retaining clips and screws from both sides of the vehicle. From behind the driver-side wheel well, remove the screw using a T-25 Torx bit, then remove the retaining screw using a T-10 Torx bit from the retaining clip. Compress the tabs accessible from behind/above the lower fascia to assist removal. Repeat on the other side. These clips are reinstalled after hitch mounting (Step 7).
The installation difficulty is rated as Moderate. This rating is based on time and effort involved and may vary depending on installer expertise, vehicle condition, and availability of proper tools and equipment.
Yes. You must trim the lower fascia using the trim diagram provided in Step 4. The trim cuts are 3-1/4" and 3-1/2" as shown in the diagram. Use caution when trimming the lower fascia. You must also remove underbody coating from the frame holes (Step 2) and may need to enlarge the access hole in the frame rail to allow hardware to pass through (Step 3).
A utility knife is used to remove underbody coating from frame holes (Step 2). A die grinder, reciprocating saw, or rotary tool is required to enlarge the access hole in the frame rail if needed to allow hardware to pass through (Step 3). A utility knife is also needed for general trimming work.
All 1/2" hardware (carriage bolts and serrated flange nuts) must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightening. Proper torque is critical to prevent damage to the product or vehicle.
The fishwire technique is used to guide the carriage bolts and square hole spacers through the frame rails without losing them inside the frame. The coiled end of the fishwire is inserted through the hitch mounting hole in the vehicle frame rail and out the access hole. The bolt is threaded into the coil, the wire is kinked to keep the spacer separate from the bolt, and then the fishwire, spacer, and bolt are pulled back through the frame and out the mounting hole. The fishwire also guides the hitch during mounting.
Installation proceeds in this order: (1) Remove lower fascia retaining clips and screws from both sides; (2) Remove underbody coating from frame holes using a utility knife; (3) Use fishwire technique to insert carriage bolts and spacers through frame rails to the forward-most mounting hole, enlarging the access hole if needed; (4) Trim the lower fascia using the provided trim diagram; (5) Raise the hitch into position, guiding the fishwire through hitch holes and removing it before securing with flange nuts; (6) Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs; (7) Reinstall the retaining clips and screws.
In Step 5, raise the hitch into position. Pull downward and rearward on the lower fascia to allow room for the hitch to pass between the fascia panel and trunk pan. Guide the fishwire through the holes in the hitch. Be careful not to push the hardware into the frame. Once positioned, remove the fishwire and secure the hitch using the supplied 1/2" flange nuts.
Wear safety glasses at all times while installing this product. Use caution when trimming the lower fascia. Be careful not to push the hardware into the frame during installation. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity when using the hitch.
Periodic inspection of the trailer hitch should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure. The manual does not specify the inspection interval or detailed maintenance procedures beyond this general requirement.
The manual does not specify vehicle compatibility. Contact CURT at 877-287-8634 or visit curtmfg.com to confirm fitment for your specific make, model, year and trim.
