The 58988 is a custom RV wiring harness that allows your vehicle's RV harness to also act as a trailer light harness. It connects your vehicle's factory taillight wiring to a 4-flat connector, enabling you to tow a trailer with functioning lights that synchronize with your vehicle's brake, turn, and running lights.

Open the hatch. Using a T-20 Torx bit, remove the two screws securing the taillight in place. Remove the taillight by pulling straight back. Carefully disconnect the taillight connectors, being careful not to damage the locking tabs. Set the taillight off to the side. Repeat on the other side of the vehicle.
Use a small screwdriver to pry the two fastener covers off. Use a T-15 Torx socket to remove the two fasteners. Repeat on the other side. Remove the taillight by pulling straight back. The taillight has alignment tabs that are pressure-fit into the body; wiggle them back and forth to loosen. Disconnect the taillight connectors carefully, being careful not to damage the locking tabs. Set the taillight off to the side.
Fishwire is a method to push or pull an electrical wire through a blind hole. It can be made from a cut-up wire hanger, stiff wire, rope, or string. Insert the fish wire through the blind hole and locate it on the other side. Use tape to secure the harness to the fish wire and pull back up. If the wire gets hung up, push back down, wiggle it around, or twist the wire to loosen it. Make sure the fish wire is long enough to stick out on both sides.
Locate the filler material just below the taillight in the bumper cover and remove it from both sides. Starting on the driver side, use the fishwire from the top side and route it down the bumper cover. From under the vehicle, attach the connector with the yellow wire to the fishwire and pull up to the taillight cavity. Repeat on the passenger side with the green wire connector.
Starting on the driver side, run a fish wire down between the body and the bumper cover. From under the vehicle, locate the side of the custom RV harness with the yellow wire. Attach the yellow side to the fish wire and pull the harness up to the factory harness. Once the custom harness is up to the factory harness, connect the mating housings and reconnect the taillight. Repeat steps 4B and 5B with the green wire on the passenger side.
Loosely secure the harness with zip ties along the rear bumper, leaving room for adjustments until the harness has been installed to the factory harness. Once the custom wiring harness is fully installed, tighten the zip ties down so that the harness is firmly in place. Ensure the harness is kept clear of any moving or hot parts of the vehicle.
You may use an existing screw or bolt in the frame of the vehicle as a grounding point. If no suitable existing fastener is available, you may drill a 3/32" pilot hole. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. The area should be free from rust, dirt, and paint; use an abrasive pad or paper to remove rust and paint before securing the white ground wire with the ring terminal.
On the driver side, route the 4-flat along or above the frame rail and up to the rear of the front tire, keeping clear of any moving or hot parts. Once the harness is just behind the driver-side front wheel, route the 4-flat harness to the rear of the driver-side wheel well. In the engine compartment, use a fishwire to route the 4-flat down along the inner fender and from under the vehicle. Pull back the inside of the wheel well lining to locate the fishwire, then route the 4-flat wire up into the engine compartment using the fishwire. Route the 4-flat along the driver-side inner fender to the front of the vehicle and mount.
Route the 4-flat wire above the rear drive line, suspension mounts, and the body, keeping clear of any moving or hot parts. Zip tie in place as needed. Route the 4-flat wire along the fuel tank between the tank and the driver-side sub frame to the rear of the front tire. From the driver-side engine compartment, use the fish wire between the inner fender and the exterior fender to route the 4-flat up to the engine compartment. Locate the end of the fish wire just behind the inner fender/wheel well, attach to the fish wire, and pull to the top side of the engine compartment. Continue to route the 4-flat wire along the driver-side inner fender to the front of the vehicle. Route behind the headlight and mount the 4-flat right next to the vehicle ground lug on the driver side.
Secure any excess wire so that it is not drooping or dangling, but not so tight that it causes unnecessary strain to the wire, which could lead to breakage over time. After removing slack from the 4-flat wire, tighten any zip ties and add as needed. Use a zip tie to fasten any excess wire to a solid spot along the driver-side inner fender.
Once the custom wiring harness is installed, verify that the harness is functioning by attaching the 4-flat to any vehicle with functioning trailer lights. The taillights on the tow vehicle should function along with the taillights on the towing vehicle. If it was disconnected at the beginning of the installation, reconnect the negative battery terminal. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. The 4-flat dust cover should be installed to help prevent corrosion.
