If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection.
This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing.
This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Tesla Model Y (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use.
You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

Yes, the CURT Custom Wiring Harness, 4-Way Flat Output, Select Tesla Model Y 56532 (Part #BKDK56532) is designed to fit the 2020-2022 Tesla Y.
The CURT Custom Wiring Harness, 4-Way Flat Output, Select Tesla Model Y 56532 (Part #BKDK56532) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The Curt 56532 is a wiring harness designed for SUVs and vans. It connects to a custom wiring harness attached to the sensor bar and mates with a T-connector harness to route power to the trailer hitch area. The harness is routed along the rear bumper and secured with cable ties.
The Curt 56532 is designed for SUVs and vans designated as 'S-series' vehicles. The manual does not specify individual vehicle makes, model years, or trim levels. Consult the manufacturer or a fitment database to confirm compatibility with your specific vehicle.
You will need: ratchet, 10mm socket, 10mm wrench, panel trim removal tool, flathead screwdriver, Torx bit T-25, and insulating gloves. Insulating gloves are essential to protect from shock and electrocution when working on live circuitry.
Yes. Step 1 requires you to power off the MCU (Main Computer Unit) via the vehicle's touchscreen before beginning installation. Step 11 instructs you to reinstall the battery loop that was disconnected in Step 2, and if the negative battery terminal was disconnected at the beginning, reconnect it after testing. Insulating gloves are required when working on live circuitry.
Open the driver door and vehicle hood and leave them open to force recalibration of the windows and doors. On the front touchscreen, select the small car icon in the lower left corner, then select 'Safety and Security' and 'Power Off'. Confirm power off on the pop-up dialog. This powers off the MCU (Main Computer Unit).
From under the hood, remove the upper hood cover. Locate the large red wire with the orange and black tag attached. The black housing contains the battery connector. Release the lock by pulling the red tab on the secondary lock on the back of the housing. Note that the red secondary lock can be brittle and may break the tab. Press the primary locking tab to separate the housing.
Remove the large, rearmost underbody panel by removing eleven screws using a 10mm socket and a T-25 Torx bit. Use a screwdriver or trim tool to remove the three plastic push fasteners along the outer edges of the panel and the four push fasteners along the lower edge of the wheel well liner securing it to the underbody panel.
Use a plastic trim pry tool to remove two clips from the lower end and four clips along the side of the wheel well trim. Repeat this process on both sides of the vehicle.
Remove the plastic fastener in the middle of each liner by hand. Then remove one bolt per side behind the wheel well liner using a 10mm socket.
Open the rear hatch and remove the carpet panel. Carefully pry between the trunk panel and rubber trim to remove the trunk panels and gain access to the taillight wiring connector and fasteners. Remove the two nuts per taillight using a 10mm socket and unclip the taillight wiring for each taillight.
Remove the one bolt under each taillight opening securing it to the bumper cover using a 10mm socket. Working from the wheel well towards the center of the bumper, carefully unclip the edge of the bumper cover using a plastic pry tool if necessary. Once unclipped, reach behind the passenger side of the cover and unclip any wiring for sensors that may be present. Place the bumper cover in a safe location to avoid damage during the rest of the installation.
Locate the custom wiring harness on the driver side of the vehicle attached to the sensor bar. This connector will mate to the T-connector harness. Insert the connector and lock it into place. Note that the protective cap on the connector may need to be removed before insertion of the T-connector harness.
Route the harness to the hitch area along the rear bumper using the provided cable ties to secure the harness under the vehicle next to the receiver hitch.
Reinstall the battery loop disconnected in Step 2. Verify that the harness is functioning by attaching the battery and testing with a test light, 4-flat tester, or a functioning trailer. If the negative battery terminal was disconnected at the beginning of installation, reconnect it after testing. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
Complete the trailer hitch installation steps or reassemble the vehicle in the reverse order of disassembly, making sure to check that all wiring is assembled and functioning properly. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
The Curt 56532 has a Difficult installation difficulty level. Installation difficulty levels are based on time and effort involved and may vary depending on the installer's level of expertise, condition of the vehicle, and proper tools and equipment.
Wear insulating gloves to protect from shock and electrocution when working on live circuitry. Do not lay tools across the positive terminal (typically noted with red covers or a red '+' symbol), as this can cause a ground short resulting in sparks and/or electrical shocks. Do not exceed the product rating or tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. The manual does not specify the inspection interval.
Yes. The manual states: 'For ease of installation, it is recommended to install the wiring harness the same time as the trailer hitch installation.'
