CURT hitch adapters can be used for many different purposes when hitching up a trailer. Whether a ball mount shank is too small or too large to fit into a receiver tube, a CURT adapter can make up the difference. Our adapters are built with exceptional strength and designed to be precisely fitted for their application. We carry trailer hitch adapters to accommodate both receiver tube openings and shanks of 1-1/4", 2" and 2-1/2" dimensions. CURT adapters also come in various lengths to allow more clearance for a cargo carrier, bike rake or spare tire. This specialized CURT receiver adapter converts a 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" receiver tube opening to a 2" x 2" opening. It offers a gross trailer weight capacity of 4,500 lbs. and a tongue weight capacity of 450 lbs., and when combined with a weight distribution hitch, it offers 6,000 lbs. GTW and 600 lbs. TW. It also has the option to be cut down from its 34" length to 24", increasing its weight carrying capacity to 6,000 lbs. and its tongue weight to 600 lbs. When combined with a weight distribution hitch, the 24" length maxes out at 8,000 lbs. GTW and 800 lbs. TW. This hitch adapter also comes with integrated safety chain loops and an electrical bracket. All CURT adapters are constructed using our quality manufacturing processes. We CNC-form each unit, weld it together using advanced robotic systems and then mechanically descale every surface to make each adapter smooth to accept a finishing coat. To finish off this adapter, we give it a durable gloss black powder coat finish to ensure it has excellent rust, chip and UV resistance.

The Curt 45048 has different weight capacities depending on its length and how it is used. When used as a weight-carrying hitch at 34 inches, the maximum trailer weight is 4,500 lbs with 450 lbs tongue weight. At 24 inches, the maximum is 6,000 lbs trailer weight with 600 lbs tongue weight. When used as a weight-distribution hitch, the capacity is 6,000 lbs trailer weight with 600 lbs tongue weight at 34 inches, and 8,000 lbs trailer weight with 800 lbs tongue weight at 24 inches.
The Curt 45048 includes one 5/8 inch hitch pin and clip (item 1). You must purchase separately: a hitch pin (the manual notes this is sold separately, though one is included), safety chains, and a ballmount. You will also need a hack saw as a tool if you plan to trim the extension to 24 inches.

1. Trim the receiver tube extension at the dotted line on the sticker if you plan to use it at 24 inches (requires a hack saw). 2. Slide the receiver tube extension into your vehicle's 2 1/2 inch receiver tube, then install the hitch pin and clip. Attach the safety chain from your vehicle to the receiver tube extension safety chain loop. 3. Place your desired ballmount in the end of the receiver tube extension and install a hitch pin and clip. 4. Attach your trailer to the ballmount, connect the trailer's safety chains to the receiver tube extension chain plate, and plug in the trailer lights. Note: trailer lights may require wire extensions.
Safety chains must be attached from your vehicle to the receiver tube extension safety chain loop, and the trailer's safety chains must be connected to the receiver tube extension chain plate. The manual warns that all non-trailer loads applied to this product must be supported by stabilizing straps. Safety chains are sold separately.
