Yes. You must remove the tow hook from the rear driver frame by uninstalling 5 existing M12 bolts (2 from the bottom and 3 from the inside). Return the bolts and tow hook to the vehicle owner.
Raise the hitch into position and align the 3 holes on each hitch bracket with the 3 holes on each frame. Install 3 M12 bolts (item 1) and 3 conical washers through the holes on each hitch bracket and into the weldnuts of the frame. If more clearance is required, loosen or lower the spare tire or lower the exhaust.
Install 2 M12 bolts (item 1) and 2 conical washers through the top 2 holes of each bolt plate. On each bolt, place 1 spacer then thread the bolt into the weldnut in the frame. In the bottom 2 holes of each bolt plate and each hitch bracket, thread 1 M12 bolt (item 2) and 1 conical washer, then secure each bolt with 1 conical washer and 1 M12 nut. See Figure 1 in the manual for the correct assembly.
Tighten all M12 CL 8.8 fasteners to 57 ft-lbs (77 N-m) using a torque wrench. Proper torque is needed to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing.
Tighten all M12 CL 10.9 fasteners to 130 ft-lbs (176 N-m) using a torque wrench. Proper torque is needed to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing.
Fastener Kit 76078F includes: (10) M12 x 1.25 x 35mm Hex Bolts CL 8.8; (4) M12 x 1.25 x 40mm Hex Bolts CL 10.9; (18) 1/2" Conical Washers; (4) Spacers (.188 x 1.50" x 2.00"); (4) M12 x 1.25 Hex Nuts CL 10.9; and (2) Bolt Plates.
You must remove and retain 1 M12 bolt and 1 M12 nut from the hitch itself before removing the tow hook. These fasteners are reused during hitch installation. Additionally, the 5 M12 bolts removed from the tow hook (2 from the bottom and 3 from the inside) should be returned to the vehicle owner.
The conical washers must be installed with the teeth side against the hitch. This orientation is shown in Figure 1 of the manual and is critical for proper fastener seating.
If excess sway occurs, take your foot off the gas pedal and hold the steering wheel as steady as possible. Do not apply your brakes and do not speed up. Reduce speed and follow all posted speed limits when towing.
Load the trailer heavier in front. This helps maintain proper weight distribution and stability during towing.
Check the hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. The manual emphasizes periodic inspection to ensure the hitch remains securely mounted to your vehicle.
If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes.
