Rather than adapting a universal design, Draw-Tite engineers a trailer hitch for a specific make, model and model year, so it bolts to existing frame locations with minimal bumper cutting or drilling. The range spans receiver sizes and classes to suit different loads, from 1-1/4 inch receivers for bike racks, cargo carriers and light trailers up through 2 inch receivers for heavier towing. Front mount hitches add a receiver at the front of the vehicle for winch mounts, snow plows, spare carriers and precise trailer positioning.
The Hidden Hitch series takes concealment further by mounting behind the vehicle's rear fascia, so the vehicle keeps its factory appearance until a removable receiver is fitted. The Gooseneck Mounting Kit 4456 is a frame-mounted support system for gooseneck hitches on Chevrolet/GMC 2500/3500 Heavy Duty trucks with short (6'-6") or long (8') beds. It includes fastener kit 4456F containing 10 hex nuts (5/8-11), 2 blocks (5/8 X 1.50 X 2.13), 10 conical toothed washers (5/8"), 4 shims (5/16 X 2.00 X 1.00), 6 carriage bolts (5/8 X 2.50 GR5), 2 hex head bolts (5/8-11 x 2.50 Gr. 5), 4 blocks (1/4 X 1.13 x 3.00), and 2 flat washers (5/8 DIA.). The kit supports Hide-A-Goose (9465/9475) or standard gooseneck hitch heads (6300, 630044, 8339).
Yes, the kit is designed for Chevrolet/GMC 2500/3500 Heavy Duty trucks with both short bed (6'-6") and long bed (8') configurations. The installation procedure and hole patterns differ between bed lengths, so verify your truck's bed length before beginning installation.
Some trucks come with optional plastic inner fender liners. To install the kit, the inner fender liners will either have to be removed or trimmed. Check with the customer before proceeding with installation.
Required tools include: wrenches (15/16" and 15/16" crowfoot adaptor), drill bits (1/4"), drill, reciprocating saw, and a hole saw. Optional tools include an 18mm socket and 15" extension to raise the truck bed during installation. A torque wrench is needed to achieve the specified torque values.
On short bed models with gasoline engines, the fuel vapor pump must be temporarily detached from the back of the gas tank during installation. The pump is reinstalled after the hitch installation is complete. This step is not required for diesel engines or long bed models.
Yes. For Hide-A-Goose (9465/9475) hitches, a 1/4" pilot hole must be drilled in the truck bed 44-7/8" (short bed) or 45-3/8" (long bed) from the rear, centered between wheel wells, then enlarged to the final diameter with a hole saw. For 6300/630044/8339 hitches, multiple 5/8" diameter holes must be drilled through the truck bed using the rearward crossmember as a template. A wood or metal shield must be placed between the frame and fuel tank to prevent puncturing the fuel tank when the drill breaks through.
For Hide-A-Goose (9465/9475) hitches, a 3-1/2" hole is drilled in the bed. For 6300/630044/8339 hitches, the truck bed and bed hat section must be cut out from underneath the vehicle using a reciprocating saw. On 6'-6" bed models, the bed hat section must also be cut. After cutting, file edges as needed. If a bed liner is installed, a section must be cut away so the gooseneck platform can contact the bed corrugations.
Yes. From underneath the passenger's side, remove or cut out the section of heat shield located under the bed, above the exhaust, and between the two bed supports. On short bed models, cut the heat shield on the gas tank or bend the top edge about 1" down to make room for the hitch. On 6'-6" bed models with 6300/630044/8339 hitches, also remove the heat shield section located between the rear bed support and the spare tire.
Notching the sheet metal flange is one method to position the crossmembers between the bed and frame. From the passenger's side wheel well, notch the sheet metal flange as shown in the installation figures. After notching, touch up the cut steel surfaces with paint to prevent rusting. Alternatively, on 8' bed models, you can loosen or remove the truck bed bolts to raise the bed above the frame, allowing the rails to be installed from underneath without notching. If raising the bed, use an 18mm socket and 15" extension to loosen bolts from below, and keep the bed in the raised position with wood blocks.
For Hide-A-Goose (9465/9475) hitches: torque GR8 fasteners on the horizontal leg of the rearward rail to 210 ft.-lb. (285 N·m); torque GR8 fasteners on the vertical leg of the rearward rail to 150 ft.-lb. (203 N·m) using a crowfoot adapter; torque GR5 fasteners for the forward rail vertical leg attachment to 150 ft.-lb. (203 N·m); torque GR5 fasteners attaching crossmembers to frame brackets to 150 ft.-lb. (203 N·m); torque GR5 fasteners attaching frame brackets to vehicle frame rails to 150 ft.-lb. (203 N·m). For 6300/630044/8339 hitches: torque all 5/8-11 GR5 fasteners on the bracket to 150 ft.-lb. (203 N·m); torque 5/8 X 2.50 GR5 carriage bolts through the hitch to 150 ft.-lb. (203 N·m); tighten 5/8" jam nuts on U-bolts until 3 threads are visible past the bottom of the nut.
Yes. The standard method is to notch the sheet metal flange on the passenger's side from the wheel well. However, as an optional alternative on 8' bed models, you can loosen or remove the truck bed bolts to raise the bed above the frame, which allows the rails to be installed from underneath without notching. If you choose to raise the bed, use an 18mm socket and 15" extension to loosen the bolts from below, and keep the bed in the raised position with wood blocks until the hitch bolts are torqued and the bed is dropped back down.

Yes. Before installing the 5/8" carriage bolts through the hitch for 6300/630044/8339 models, U-block shims (5/16 X 2.00 X 1.00) must be placed between the hitch and the bed and between the crossmembers and the bottom of the bed. These shims are necessary to prevent the bed corrugations from collapsing when the bolts are tightened. Four shims are included in fastener kit 4456F.
The 1/4 X 1.13 x 3.00 blocks (qty. 4) are used as spacers when fishwiring 5/8 carriage bolts through the large holes in the vehicle frame rails and through the smaller mounting holes in the frame rails. These blocks help position the fasteners correctly during installation.
